PowerShot / Canon S110 vs S120
« on: November 29, 2013, 05:17:34 PM »
Hello,
Just seeing what everybody's opinion is between these two cameras. S110's have come down in price quite a bit and wondering if the S120's features are that much better to justify the cost. Is the Digic 6 sensor that much better than Digic 5?

Forgot to mention that I currently have the S95.

Any help in making this decision would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Portrait / What did I do wrong?
« on: July 17, 2012, 08:58:33 AM »
I was taking shots of some friends and seem to mess up a few like this. The focus on the guy is completely missed.

I was using 5D3 - 50mm 1.4
Av - 1.4
AF Point Expansion with Center point selected.

I took about 4-5 shots and they were all same with the focus missed on the guy. Is it because my DOF was to shallow? Or Do I need to use a different AF selection mode?

Please advise.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Where do you start for videos?
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:04:18 PM »
Hello, So i just received my 5D3 and haven't yet played with the video feature yet. I've seen some amazing videos out the 5D2 and 5D3's. So questions for a beginner like myself:

Where do you start? I know the movies use the 24fps
What Lens to use? I own the 50 1.4, 135L f.2, 24-105L
What about the Aperture and Shutter speed values?
What Mode? Manual, Av, TV
Focusing tips/techniques?

Please point me in the right direction.

Thank  You!

Lenses / How do I know I have a bad lens?
« on: July 06, 2012, 11:24:19 PM »
Hello All,
I just received my 5D3 a couple of weeks ago and with that I purchased the kit lens, 135L, and the 50 1.4. I just opened the 50 1.4 today and tried to take some test shots. I noticed that there was a significant vignette on the corners. How do i know that the lens is bad? I took a picture of a plain wall and the vignette was even more visible.

Should i just get it exchanged? Or should i do some more tests? Please advise.

Thanks

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 5D3 Settings Questions..
« on: June 26, 2012, 10:30:54 AM »
Hello, I just received my 5D3 last week and i'm super excited about it however, had a few questions since this is a significant upgrade coming from a 40D.

AF Drive: What AF Drive setting would you recommend for shooting kids (mostly indoors). Right now i haven't ventured out of the One Shot but was wondering if AI Focus will serve better?

AF Area: What do you typically use for AF area for day to day shooting? Is using the 61-point Automatic selection recommended? As it tends to focus on the nearest subject.

Usable AF Points: So i'm having a bit of hard time understanding this concept. If i typically use the 24-105 f/4 Kit lens according to the manual belongs in Group C. How does this limit me in using the Autofocus?

AEB/HDR/Multiple Exposures: In what scenarios you want to use these? On my 40D i would typically use AEB to take 3-5 shots and then use an external editor to combine the images to create an HDR. And now the 5D3 combines the images for an HDR image within the camera.

So what are some good scenarios you want to use AEB?
What is the use for Multiple Exposures and when would you want to use it?

I apologize if these are beginner questions, but I want to learn the full capabilities of the camera so that I can become a better photographer. Thank you for your help.

Hello All,
Just got my 5D3 and few lenses and i have outgrown my older bag (Canon 200EG). I'm looking for a bag that has space to hold a laptop as well. Typically I always have to take laptop when I travel.

At a local store I looked at Lowepro Fastpack 350 and Tamrac Evolution 8. They both seem pretty good. But I wasn't sure if there are others that may work better. I also need some room to grow as I purchase a few more lenses. I searched through the forums but didn't find a topic related to my needs.

Looking to keep under $200.

Here is what would like to carry in the bag.

5D3 with Battery Grip (possibly a second body)
Laptop (15" max)
24-105 L
135L
50 1.4
430EX speed lite
Tripod

70-200 2.8L II IS (Will purchase in the near future)
Possibly another speedlite

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi All,
I am looking to take advantage of the double rebates going on with Canon Lenses and was looking for a good prime to compliment the 5D3 with the 24-105L. I am switching from a 40D with a 17-55 2.8 to the 5D3.  I also have a 50 1.8 which I thought was a bit narrow on a cropped sensor body for some of the indoor shots I was doing.

I was looking at the 35L, 50L, or the 85L. Ideally i'd like to have them all, but is there one that is a better lens than the others? I've heard many people rave about the 50 1.2L.

I will mostly be shooting pics of my daughter and family. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
SMG

Edited: Changed 50 1.8 from wide to narrow.
