« on: November 27, 2013, 06:58:45 PM »
Hello! I've been a long time browser, sometimes poster. While I've posted some individual sets before, I'd Like to put out what I think represents my best work (in landscapes, anyway). Any and all constructive criticism welcome!

Sports / Cross Country
« on: November 12, 2013, 09:17:28 PM »
I recently shot the Schaumburg sectional and the Illinois State Cross Country Finals. As a cross country runner myself, it certainly made it easier in some ways (access to team tents, deep, deep knowledge of the sport, access to special areas, etc.), and they were really exciting events to shoot. Enjoy! C&C appreciated

PowerShot Cameras / Help on a pocketable compact
« on: August 30, 2013, 07:01:26 PM »
Hey everyone! I'm finding that these days I'm less likely to take my dslr most places, and that because of that I'm missing some key moments with friends and family. I'd like a compact that can fit in my jeans pocket and yet still has decent image quality and will serve me well for a couple of years. Again, just casual snapshots here and there. I'd like to keep the price around/under $250. After looking at a few options, the Lumix zs3 is interesting me, but I'm not quite sure yet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Here are a few images from my trip to the Yellowstone area. A few were taken in the Badlands NP area as well. C&C greatly appreciated!

Software & Accessories / Software for star trails/time-lapse?
« on: June 12, 2013, 06:33:45 PM »
I'm going on a vacation later this summer to Yellowstone and Teton NPs and surrounding area. I've never done star trail or time-lapse photography, and I figured that this vacation would be a good opportunity to do so. I have all the equipment I need except for the software to actually put together the time-lapse video and the final star trail composite image. I have Photoshop Elements 9, but as far as I'm aware It's not possible to do these things within that software. Do you guys have any recommendations for inexpensive (but decent) software I could use? Thanks!

Reviews / G1X vs RX100?
« on: June 08, 2013, 09:46:42 PM »
Hey everyone. I'm looking to buy a backup camera that's not a DSLR but has decent image quality. I think I've narrowed it town to the Canon G1X and the Sony RX100. Size isn't a huge concern, but I was wondering which I should choose. Thoughts?

The bottom rung on the Canon DSLR ladder. Does anyone other than myself use one? ;)

Abstract / Fun with fire
« on: February 26, 2013, 09:01:43 PM »
I had some fun with fire one saturday afternoon.

I first poured water into the glass, and added some food coloring as well. I then poured A TON of lighter fluid on top, and lit it. I had an assistant drop an ice cube from outside the frame, and I fired the camera through EOS Utility at the same moment the ice cube hit the water. A lot of trial and error.......

Lighting / Yongnuo st-e2?
« on: February 06, 2013, 04:41:52 PM »
I'd like to get into remotely controlling flashes, but I need a decent and reliable trigger that doesnt cost an arm or a leg. I was looking around and the Yongnuo st-e2 kept popping up. Does anyone have any experience with it? Do you like it? If you have another suggestion around the same price i'm open to that too! Thanks!

Landscape / Ball heads vs. Pan/tilt- advice?
« on: January 30, 2013, 07:16:49 PM »
Not sure if this is the best area of the forum to put this topic under, but oh well here goes.

I will be going to the Gand Tetons and Yellowstone later this summer, and I am looking to upgrade my tripod. I have (almost) set my mind on the Manfrotto 190xprob. However, I need a head. When researching, I found some people saying that ball heads were best for landscape photography, while others said that with ball heads, its nearly impossible to keep the horizon level without a hotshoe bubble level, so pan/tilt heads were ideal. Advice?

EOS Bodies / Which is better? 5D MKII or 6D?
« on: January 04, 2013, 11:30:26 AM »
This isn't a question I'm paticularly interested in, but I am intrigued by the articles that say that a new "entry level" FF camera is potentially "better" than camera legendary for its IQ- the 5D MkII. Thoughts?

And yes, I know that better is kinda an open-ended, question, but I meant for it to be that way.

EOS Bodies / G1 X or EOS M?
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:06:07 PM »
I'v been thinking about getting a camera that's smaller and more condusive to "walking around" than mu current one is

I've been considering the G1 X and the EOS M, however my only gripe with the M is its limited range of focal ranges...... yes I could use an adapter, but remember I don't want this to be a "big" camera

EOS Bodies / Canon's Reputation
« on: October 21, 2012, 09:11:49 PM »
I'm curious to see what other people's opinion is on the reputation of Canon, its customer service, its future and how they stand compared to other companies.

Lenses / Lens combos under $1000
« on: October 21, 2012, 09:03:05 PM »
This topic is mainly out of curiosity to see what people think, and hopefully it will also help some budget-restricting people!

Say you just spent $1000ish on a 60D, and now you need some lenses, but TOGETHER They need to be under $1000. What would you choose?
