I'll be shooting a collegiate conference swimming championship indoors.  I have a 1D Mark IV with a 70-200 and a 7D Mark II with a 24-70 2.8.  If necessary I can swap the lenses.  Will that be sufficient?  What length lenses do you use?

I don't normally shoot swimming but this gig requires thorough coverage so I need expertise from those who have experience

I'm planning a visit to Yellowstone and Grand Teton and bringing my 5D3 with the requisite landscape lenses, my SL1 is my backup EF body.  I'd like to leave the big whites home and carry a bridge camera.  Both the Leica and Lumix (identical specs) fit my bill as 25-400mm zoom with f/4 aperture.  Does the Leica have a superior IQ to the Lumix?  Is the Leica being a crippled version of the Lumix make it less desirable given the $450 premium price?  I'd like to hear ONLY from those who have shot either or both bridge cameras.

I'm hoping to spend 3 days at each park sometime early in the summer.  I'd appreciate suggestions for shooting locations and subjects and best time of day for venues.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5D Mark II with selector dial mod
« on: October 30, 2014, 07:37:04 PM »
I saw this on an auction while preparing to sell my 5D2.  Does Canon really do this mod?

"For sale used canon eos 5d mark II is in good perfect condition, selector dial lock modified
like the 5d mark III , by canon. "

EOS Bodies - For Stills / %D Mark III instead of 7D Mark II
« on: October 28, 2014, 10:44:06 PM »
I had the $1799 ready for the 7D2 but I found a mint condition 5D3 for $2200 so I pulled the trigger.  It's amazing how the price drops just before a highly anticipated release.  I am very happy to be shooting the 5D3 along with my new used 1D4

Software & Accessories / Inexpensive Computer for PP
« on: September 29, 2014, 09:33:12 AM »
I thought I would share this for those whose computers are bogged down by PP:

I couldn't stomach the price of a new Mac or even a Windows workstation so I went searching for alternatives on eBay.  I found a used $300 Dell Precision Workstation T5400 with Dual Quad Core 3GHz Xeon CPUs and 32GB of RAM for $300.  I found a brand new 4TB drive for $125.  I'll put the $ I saved into the equipment fund.

I finally upgraded my III to a IV and this shot is from a night game tonight.  This was shot with a 70-200 IS at 1250, f/4, ISO4000.  It is a jpeg out of the camera and just cropped and unprocessed.

I wonder if the 7D Mark II will give me a shot better than this

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Pricing advice on a used 1D Mark IV
« on: September 24, 2014, 10:12:03 AM »
Now that the 7D2 has surfaced, I am mulling over a purchase of a used 1D Mark IV.  The body looks to be an 8+, no scratches on the LCD, and just got serviced by CPS with a shutter count of 24,600.It has one battery and the newer LC-E4N charger.  What would be a good fair price for a local cash transaction?

EOS Bodies / Digic 7 Development
« on: September 13, 2014, 09:31:36 AM »
This new processor is the key to high MP cameras.  Doubling the resolution will require 1.414 times the processing power.  The current Digic 6 will drop the 1Dx to 8FPS.  The Digic 7 is going to be a dual Digic 6 in one package which will allow 4x the processing power for high MP, high frame rate bodies.

EOS Bodies / Pricing for the 7D Replacement
« on: August 28, 2014, 10:52:42 AM »
Judging by the specs, the new body should fall between the $3399 list of the 5D3 and the $1899 of the 6D.  I'm guessing a $2599 list.  It won't be below the $1899 of the 6D because the 70D is at $1199 and Canon doesn't want to cannibalize those sales.  If they use the 5D3/6D ratio, then a new APS-C body would be $2149 which would be great and shouldn't affect 6D sales.

Somewhere between $2149 and $2599 is doable unless the used 1D Mark IV falls below $2000

EOS Bodies / 1D Mark IV Prices Dropping?
« on: July 01, 2014, 07:46:24 PM »
It looks like prices are starting to dip and sales of 1D Mark IVs are slowing in anticipation of a new body.  It looks like Canon is blowing out 7D refurbs too.

It will be a 1D Mark V in a 7D size body, hence the change to 1Dx because it is full frame.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 1D Mark IV or 1Dx?
« on: May 29, 2014, 07:46:55 AM »
I finally have enough funds to purchase either a 1Dx but I am not sure if it is that much better than a 1D Mark IV.  I can compare the specs but I'd like to hear from those who currently own both bodies.  Is the 1Dx worth the price of TWO 1D Mark IVs?  Are the better specs worth the extra expense?  Thanks in advance

Lenses / Canon 24mm f/1.4L, Original or Mark II
« on: April 14, 2014, 10:28:47 AM »
I would like to add this lens to my bag, can you guys state the merits of the Mark II over the original or vice-versa?  Is the Mark II worth the $500 premium?
