EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 50D vs 7D
« on: July 14, 2012, 02:06:41 PM »
I currently own

Canon 50D
Canon 70-300L is
Sigma 17-50 2.8
Canon 50 1.8
Canon 580 EX II

I am thinking of upgrading to a Canon 7D.   Part of the reason is for the much better focusing system for action shots of wildlife.

I am also wondering if there will be any significant improvement in ISO performance from the 50D, or would a better option would be to invest in glass.

Thank you for any advice.

Lenses / Canon 70-300L IS + Kenko 1.4x Teleconverter
« on: July 11, 2012, 09:32:25 AM »
I am wondering if any one has any experience with the Canon 70-300L IS combined with the Kenko 1.4x Teleconverter.   I know that you will be losing one full stop which will make it a f8 at the 300mm end,  but it seems that you still will retain the auto fucus on the 50D.  It is suppose to be slow but still workable. I am just wondering how much it degrades the IQ.

The other other option that I was thinking of, to get more reach, is to invest in the Canon 400mm 5.6.  Would IQ of the 400mm 5.6 be greatly improved from the teleconverter and 70-300L Combination.  Also if any one know if the 400mm 5.6 compares to the 70-300L in IQ

Thanks for any advice

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 50D Error 20
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:46:21 PM »
I have recently been having a bit of a problem with my Canon 50D.  It has been coming up with an error 20.   This seems to happen when I am using my Canon lenses and the Sigma lenses.  The error will come up with no lens attached to the camera.  It is very sporadic.  I can shoot sometimes up to 500 shots before it will come up with the error,  but once the error shows up it is almost like the camera has to rest for a while before I can continue to shoot.

I go through the process of turning the power off and the on and the error will show up after one shot.
I have removed and installed the battery with the same results.

I even notice  tonight that shutter hung up a couple of times

I have taken a eraser to all contact points including the body and all lens and same results.

Tried activating the shutter without any lenses and still comes with same error.

I am the point of sending it into Canada to get it service but my only fear is that I send it there and because it is a sporadic problem that they will send it back saying there is nothing wrong with it.

The camera is about 1 year 9 months old.  I have about 3 months warranty left on it because I purchase this with my Visa card.  My card doubles the original warranty.

Any ideas or thoughts

Lenses / Is this about Normal for Canon 15-85
« on: January 01, 2012, 11:25:07 AM »
These were taken about a 45 degrees from where the sum was coming down.  There is quite a bit of purple fringing on the tree's. I am shooting them stop down at least 1 stop some 2 from maximum aperture.  Could be that use to of the 70-300l is and it being able to shoot wide open

Lenses / Canon 15-85 for a walk around lens
« on: December 29, 2011, 07:58:15 PM »
I am once again looking for advice.

I am thinking of purchasing the Canon 15-85 Lens and am wondering someone has some hands on experience as far as Image quality goes

My present equipment is
Canon 50D
Canon 70-300L Is
Canon 18-55 IS Kit lens
Canon 50 1.8

I am thinking of the 15-85 to replace my 18-55

Also considered the Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS,  which would give me a constant 2.8 but shorter focal range.

The Canon 17-55 2.8 is out of my  budget

Any thoughts

Thank You

Lenses / Tripod Collar 70 300L is
« on: November 09, 2011, 07:30:56 PM »
I am wondering if anybody has experience with any third party tripod collar for the 70-300L is.
Is the build quality good on the third party ones,  if so which one, or is it better to bite the bullet and pay the $190.00 for the genuine Canon collar?

Thanks for your response.
