Canon General / Trip to Sri Lanka
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:58:06 AM »
Hey guys,

didn't know where to exactly post this but here it goes :D

I'm going to Sri Lanka in April/May and plan to shoot a lot. We won't be going to resorts and such but more to look at temples, a nice beach or two, the cities, tea pickers, we will be going to Adams Peak and to a Natural Reserve to check out some wildlife.

My plan is to take some nice landscape and people shoots as well as usual stuff.

Do you have some good recommendations on what to bring? (Lenses, Bag, other stuff?)

Thanx :)

Third Party Manufacturers / 10 stop High quality ND filter
« on: June 20, 2013, 12:12:04 PM »
Hey guys,

I was wondering how many of you use a 10 stop ND filter and which one do you recommend. I am looking to buy a good one, not to get too much color cast or vigneting. So far I found Lee big stopper, b+w, singh ray ...

How much difference is there, because the prices vaty a lot...
Also, do you use a lens screw on or a square type that you need a holder for.

Thank you

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 1 ds mark3 vs 5d mark 3 image quality
« on: January 06, 2013, 12:14:19 PM »
Hey,

Im thinking about changing my trusty old 1ds3 for 5d3. Im not a pro, so I shoot mostly for my fun, but I do love photography and printing large. I mostly shoot landscape, portraits, events and other stuff as well.

I would like to upgrade, as I miss the iso in the 1ds3 and it does get quite heavy carrying around all day :)
Also the technology on the 1ds3 is already a bit dated ...(hate the low res screen) ...
If someone has both cameras, can you please compare the image quality and any pros and cons for the cameras.
Maybe for IQ, weather sealing(used the 1 this weekend in pouring rain), print quality, high iso, af,...

Thanks.

Lenses / 85 mm Lens
« on: September 26, 2012, 09:22:05 AM »
Hey,

I am not a professional photographer, but I would like to buy a nice portrait lens. I have a full frame body (1ds mk3) so I am considering the following lenses:

Canon 85 1.8
Sigma 85 1.4
Zeiss 85 1.4

Which would you recommend and why? Do you think it is better to go with the 135L ?

85L is over my budget and is to slow...

Thanks

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon one series shutter life
« on: August 01, 2012, 08:00:20 AM »
Hey everyone, I am new to posting on the CR forum, but have been following it awhile now.

This is a question/rant post about my Canon 1ds mark3. I bought the camera in 2008 and it is indeed a great camera, with high resolution, good AF and the like. The problem that I have with it is that the shutter seems to have died on me. And that is after about 20k pics. And that is what pisses me of, Canon states that the shutter on a one series is good for 300k+, but this is less than 10%.

I am from Slovenia, where Canon has a poor presence in terms of service and all, so this will probably cost me around 300EUR(=370USD), as the guarantee period is over. >:(

I guess I am writing this post to vent a bit and to ask if anyone has had similar problems with a one series camera and if you have any ideas what to do(instead of paying the 300eur).

Any ideas EU users?

Thanks
Tomaz
