Third Party Manufacturers / Canon EOS 7D or Nikon D7100
« on: February 22, 2013, 06:14:09 AM »
I am planning to upgrade my Canon 40D to a more advanced camera. 40D isn't bad at all but it doesn't come with video shooting features at all. I can save up to around $1K or a little bit more in a few months' time.
A friend of mine from Asia said that she could buy me a new 7D (grey market) for US$880 and bring it to me when she visits me some time early summer.

Then it's the new Nikon D7100 coming with a lot of interesting features.
Which one should I pick ?

I know lens would be an important consideration. For the time being, I mainly borrow my dad's canon lens. If I switch to the other brand, I can use my brother's lenses.

Software & Accessories / my first PS exercise

Thanks to the kind people here who had helped me to make a decision to choose my 40D which I enjoyed shooting with very much.

I made a triptych with 3 photos taken with 50 1.8 and I followed Gavin Hoey's tutorial to edit and merge them to what it looked like in the attachment.

Hope you guys like it.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Canon 40D or XS
« on: August 17, 2012, 01:38:32 AM »
I am in the dilemma of buying either of the above cameras. My friend has a 40D and he's asking for $320 (body only) and his camera has 15K actuations on it. My brother insists that for the same money, I could easily find a XS with kit lens.

In some forums, people are saying that 40D had a bad shutter durability record. However, XS seems to me a lower end product of  canon to me.

My dad promises me to give me a few of his canon lenses to start with if I have a camera body. But, I worry about the err99 and shutter problem.

Can anybody enlighten me in this regard and help me to make a decision.
