Hi all,
got my 1D C today in Germany and just started it for the first time and I see I have Firmware 1.1.9 installed and I can choose 4K with 24P and 25P. Sadly no 720 with 120P, but we knew this before.

If you like me to check for any features you are missing let me know and I try to have a look if I can find them in the new version.

Lenses / Canon Cinema CN-E lenses compared to Canon EF
« on: April 06, 2013, 03:40:14 PM »
I haven´t found anything about the new lenses yet compared to the Canon EF lenses.
Had anyone a chance to play with one, make some photo or video shots and compare them to the well know lenses.
Reason for me to look into it, is that I´m going to Order myself a 1D C instead of the X and give my wife my 5D III.
Only intrested in the lenses Canon Cinema CN-E 24mm T1.5/ Canon Cinema CN-E 50mm T1.3 or Canon Cinema CN-E 85mm T1.3.

Thanks

EOS Bodies - For Video / Video 5D III vs. 1DX
« on: February 03, 2013, 07:36:22 AM »
I currently have my 5D III and don´t know if I should get a second 5D III or a 1DX.
I haven´t found a lot of comparsions between them. And if the 1DX would be better in Video too this might give me the push to spend the extra money.
Did somebody here had a look what the 1DX might have as additional features or a better quality over a 5D III?
Thanks all for your comments

Lighting / Help for Speedlight MT-24 EX / 600EX-RT
« on: February 03, 2013, 07:31:08 AM »
I hope someone here knows the answer.
I currently have the 5D III with a 600EX-RT. For my next trip I´m thinking about lightning for macro photos.
My lens for this will be the 100L IS.
I have the RRS B91-QR of camera flash braket and was wondering if I could also use a second 600EX-RT to get a good macro lightning instead of getting a very expensive MT-24 EX just for this.
Pictures will be mosly flowers and maybe a few insects or other animals.
I could set the 600EX with a very wide zoom setting to give a good light and with the bracket I also can change the angle of them.
Good thing with two 600EX would be that I might get a second body ( not sure if I get a 1DX or a second 5D III ) and I could use it there.

Thanks for your suggestions and hopefully there is somebody that tried it and saw the difference in the pictures.

Software & Accessories / Good Mono for my EF600 II ?
« on: December 18, 2012, 09:16:38 AM »
Hi all,
I´m very happy with my new EF600 II on my 5D III, but if you stand in front of a tree and wait for a bird to pop his head out of a nest it gets heavy after 10 minutes. And there are time where I won´t take my 3 legged friend with Sachtler Head.
So I´m looking for a Mono and maybe a Head that let me move vertical.

I don´t wanna spend 1000 EUR and it should fit into a suitcase.

What do you have for your big lens ?
Do you use it often or go for your Tripod instead ?
Are you happy with it or anthing you miss ?

Thanks all for your input

Lighting / Birds with Better Beamer & sync times
« on: November 09, 2012, 10:00:35 AM »
Hi everyone,

I´m very happy with my 5D III and my Speedlight 600EX . Now that I put the order down for my EF600 II Lens I try to get all the right equipment for shooting Wildlife.
I thought I get the RRS B91-QR to put my Speedlight 600EX with a OC-E3 cord on it and then add the Better Beamer FX3.

So far so good, I hope this is a setup I´ll be happy with, if you know a better solution let me know.
I don´t have a Gimbal I´ll use it on my Sachtler head.

What setting do you use to get a good lightning of your wildlife?
Isn´t there a sync speed limit I have to watch ?
Because with 600mm and maybe a 1,4 Extender 840mm I think I need about 1/1000 to 1/2000 to get really sharp pictures, but from my tests it looks like the strobe won´t keep up with it.

So what are you using ?

Sadly there is not always the chance to walk around it and get the sunlight shining as you need for a perfect shot.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and story how you did find the right setting.

Cheers

Florian

Lenses / Canon 100 2.8 L or 70-200 IS II L with 12 or 25mm extension tube
« on: November 02, 2012, 04:03:26 PM »
Hi everybody,

I hope someone already compared it and can help me decide.
The 100L is a very good lens, I had it a few years before and it was one of my favorite, because all my other lenses were not very fast at this time, but I had to sell it and I´m not sure if I really need it again.
Now I got the 70-200 IS II and will get the 24-70 II soon, both with 2.8 so fast enough for me on my 5D III.

My question would be if the qualitiy of the pictures with one of the two lenses with Canon extension tubes will be close to the 100L marco lens.
I know I´ll loose infinity focus but with most Macro pictures it´s not shot and go like in a city.

And the second thing I have to decide is what to do about strobes.

I do have the new 600 Speedlight and I´m not yet sure if I can live with it or should get a macro flash.
I would mostly go for flowers and occasionally a insect if I get a good one close enough.

Did someone compare the two Canon macro strobes and maybe another good and not to expensive vendor?
And did someone get a good result with the LED lights ?
I´m not sure about the LED´s, also thinking about getting one for Video, but I´m curios about the Colors.

Thanks a lot to everybody for your help

Lenses / Drop in Filter for EF 500 or 600 f/4L IS II USM
« on: September 21, 2012, 10:40:12 AM »
Hello to everybody,

I´m going to order one of these lenses soon for my birding trip to Australia.
I was more of the macro and underwater guy.
Now I like to get a really long lens for my 5D III.

It´s just not a lot of information to find about people having these and using filters.
Usually I have a B+W Käsemann circular polarisation filter with me for my 16-35 II or my 70-200 II.

Does it make sense to get this at all for a 500mm or 600mm ?
Since I haven´t got a lens with drop in filter slot before, if I do get a filter, how do I adjust it to the situation ?
Is there a nob to turn ? or do I need a Canon filter that come with some kind of possibilty to adjust without getting the filter out?

Thanks for your input and this great page, reading it for years now since I got my 5D II.
Sorry my bad English I´m from Germany  ;D
