Aloha e Scarpz13,

I am a hobby photographer who basically shoots pictures of my daughter.  I basically do a lot of run and gun shooting...kids move fast so I try to capture the moment.  Recently I wanted to get more into creative photography stuff with my daughter being the core theme so I purchased  a CANON 600 EX-RT and an ST E3 RT.  I have been loving it so far.  Having the ability to shoot flash using radio expands the creativity aspect, which you may not need. But I have been able to shoot using creative flash, of course vary basic techniques, with ease.  Attached is a picture I took of my daughter holding the flash hidden behind her ballon to create an ambient soft light to light her face.  Pretty basic but cool at the same point, I think.  I've just started to expand my experimentation in this area but the ability to do RT has made it exciting.  Don't know if this helps but good luck on your endeavors.  Capturing the 'moment' in our families lives are the reason to do photography, for me anyway.  Malama pono and good luck.

Lenses / Re: Making the most out of a 50 1.2?
« on: January 06, 2013, 09:14:12 AM »
Our family finally entered the world of L primes for Christmas and I was wondering how we can make the most out of a 50mm 1.2?

I used it on my Dad's 1Ds3 yesterday and took a picture of the darkest part of our house and when we saw it, tears were shed at its awesomeness. ;)

Iv'e used it on my 5D Mk II and love it.  I do not know much about photography but I know that the pictures I take with it make my friends say "WOW".  I love the lens but miss it as I have been lending it to a young teen of a friend, who is interested in photography.  The pictures I've taken with it blow me away.  I don't know crap about IS or CA but the pictures I take of my daughter with this lens, I LOVE!!!!  Have fun with this lens.  This lens and my EF 135 f2L are my go to lenses that I keep on my 5D MkIII now, 99% of the time.  Go BIG or go home....in f stop anyway.

Aloha e Madspihl,
Don't know if what I have to say is helpful but,I have a MkII and MkIII.  I use primes primarily.  I have an EF 50 f1.2L, EF 135 f2L that I use most of the time.  My kind of shooting is run and gun though so I don't use wide angle too much.  I have a EF 24-70 f2.8L that I use for my wide angle stuff but seriously been thinking about getting Ziess glass.  My EF 50 f1.2L is awesome as is my 135 so I have considered getting a Zeiss ZE 85 f1.4*T or the new Zeiss 15mm wide angle monster.  I use my 135 80-90% of the time and enjoy it the most.  Although 1.2 L kicks ass!!!!!

I have a Mark II and Mark III.  I am not a professional photographer and I shoot pics around town similar to what you describe that you intend to do.  My main set up for most of my picture taking is 5DMkII or III with EF 135 f2 L.  That lens is awesome for run and gun shooting which is what I do most of the time.
