EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Help: Amateur upgrade from a t2i to....

With your budget I would say just look for good deals on the 5D Mark III and the 70-200 2.8 Mark II for the moment.
I shoot soccer games solely with that combo and get good results.
The 24-105 is not bad. Use it until you can afford to replace it with the 24-70 2.8 Mark II.
Add other lenses and equipment (battery grip, flashes, tripod etc) with your income from your jobs.

Cheers

I for one hope that the 450EX-RT (or whatever the 430EX II successor will get called) gets announced. That would be really nice!

Software & Accessories / Re: Where to buy Orange LP-E6 Battery covers?

Oh, I just saw that you can get them on ebay with free shipping. 4 pieces for 4.99 USD. Just type in "LP-E6 cover" and you'll find it.

I can get them here in China very cheap:
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.10.154.5Ip2FD&id=7837864028&_u=f45amfq59c1

4.5 CNY is around 0.75 USD. Shipping fee within China is another 6 CNY. I would have to ask how much the shipping fee to another country is.

Since I don't know where you are located check in your country first if you can get them there. If you can't find'em let me know and I can see if I can help you to ship them wherever you are.

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / ST-E3-RT shortage?
« on: January 09, 2013, 09:43:33 AM »
Does anybody know why there seems to be a shortage of supply for the ST-E3-RT transmitters?

I wanted to buy one in China and realized that not only in Shanghai but in the whole of China nobody seems to have them in stock. I seriously contacted every single seller that advertised them on taobao.com which is like ebay but with only "buy it now"-options and no auctions and more or less only commercial sellers. They all say it's on back order.
And then I looked on Adorama and B&H in the states and it's the same situation. So what's going on? Did Canon underestimate the demand? Do they have production problems? Or did they find a bug that needs to be fixed before production can continue? Or do they just hope that people buy more 600EX-RT's instead since these can work as masters too and can be used as additional off camera flash's when the ST-E3-RT's arrive.

If/when you try it, please post your results!

Unfortunately that won't happen this week, as I our home life has been turned upside down while my wife works on a jobs where she has 5961 images to work through and get proofs out... That means my weekend will be spent getting proofs onto the web...

Hi guys,

did anyone had the time to conduct tests with 3rd party gel yet? I saw that post was from October and hope that we have more information now if the 600EX-RT reads other gels or not.

Cheers

Lenses / Re: Football (soccer) lens

Thanks everyone for the advises! I guess I will get the 70-200 2.8 II first because it will be the most versatile and get more use in general and not only for football. And maybe the 1.4X III or 2X III.

Of course I would love to have a 300 or 400 2.8 II too but the 300 is around 43K Chinese RMB here in Shanghai. I can't spend that much money on a hobby right now. Maybe one day in a couple of months if I have some leftover money :-)

Thanks Neuro to reply to my post. You have both 70-200 2.8 II and 100-400. Which one do you use more often with the family?

I neither have the 70-200 2.8 II nor the 100-400, so I guess the question is if the 100-400 would get more use around the family etc or if I purely buy it for football. I would believe that i would have more uses for the 70-200 2.8 with taking pics of the family

Lenses / Football (soccer) lens
« on: January 01, 2013, 11:41:19 AM »
Guys,

I'm thinking about which lens I should get to shoot the matches of my amateur football team. I have the 5D Mark III and I would like to get the 70-200 2.8 II, but is it long enough? I mean if I stand behind the goal and only shoot the action in front of the goal it should be ok. But if I shoot other pictures from the sidelines it could be a bit short. On my old 600D I used the cheap 75-300 without IS and USM. Close pics were ok but far pics were not really usable. But the focal length on crop of 120-480 was very neat to have. So I'm thinking if the 70-200 2.8 II + 2X III could do the trick or if I should better opt for the 100-400? I will not wait for a new version because of many years of rumors for it to materialize and I do believe that the resale value of the existing version will not drop too much immediately.
The downsides of the 100-400 are obviously that it has 30mm less on the lower end and that it is not weather sealed as the 70-200 2.8 II and I would love to use it during some rainy matches too.

So what do you guys think I should do?

Cheers

Seb

No problem for that combo! I took nice snow pics of my daughter with the 5DIII and 24-70 II!

Christmas 1985 my father gave me a M42 mount Yashica 35mm film camera with one 50mm lens and one tele (don't remember the focal length nor do I remember the brands of the lenses).

I enthusiastically shot a lot of pics. I especially remember my pics of historical sites in Greece or me lying behind a ramp snapping pics of friends jumping over me on skateboards.

The Yashica got damaged a bit in the early 90es and was never used again. It's probably in a box somewhere in my fathers basement. I didn't own a functional camera from then on for a long time.

In 1996 and 1997 for the summer holidays I borrowed a Nikon SLR with two lenses (one of them a tele zoom).

In 2006 I got married and my wife had a point and shoot Sony T7. That's what we used for several years.

March 2012 bought a Canon 600D with 18-55 and 75-300. Caught the photography bug again.

September 2012 bought 16-35mm 2.8L II and 600EX-RT in anticipation of buying FF.

Christmas 2012 bought 5DIII and 24-70mm 2.8L II. Gave the 600D + 18-55 + 75-300 to my brother in law.

In 2013: 70-200 2.8L II + 100 2.8L macro + 85 1.2L and then we'll see...
