EOS Bodies / Re: Canon's Next Full Frame Camera [CR2]
« on: July 16, 2012, 05:41:37 PM »

So yeah, they should make and launch a better sensor as soon as posible.

for me this is like back then when microsoft released VISTA.. just wait for win7.   :D

For me this is like when lots of people bought macs instead of waiting for win 7. I don't care about canon and nikon anymore. I'd quite like to swap my 5dc for this camera if its cheap enough, especially if it has built in flash so I can take it out of the house without my studio lights, but what I really want is built in wifi for transferring images to my network. If my android phone can do it and fit in my pocket and hulking great dslr should be able to do it without an enormous attachment that costs an extra few hundred $.

Off topic a bit but wondering if this is ever going to show up e.g. in the mirrorless from Canon. OR does everyone who wants this use an eye-fi card. Personally I just want to be able to make an ftp link to my camera.

Do any of the recent rebels or compacts from Canon have wifi and sharing capabilities? Am I the only one who thinks getting your photos off your camera shouldn't involve taking out your memory card or am I just lazy?

I recently bought an android phone and what with es file explorer (essentially like explorer in windows combined with media playback) and swiftp (ftp server on your phone, with password set up etc) it is never EVER necessary to tether my phone to the computer....

I would love this on my 5D or a mirrorless. For that matter, I'd like to be able to load to Picasa...

Lenses / Re: Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 Pancake Coming [CR3]

I wonder if this is in response to the 40mm by Panasonic?

Anyway its exactly what I want and I'll prob swap my 35mm f2 for it.

As to everyone wondering why this makes sense, I don't want to buy another small camera with rubbish battery life and lower image quality, with small viewfinder.

This allows somebody like me to leave the 24-70L at home for studio and still use the 5D for fun, without the extra weight.

When they bring out a lighter full frame DSLR to go with it, I will bite, so long as its still as good as the old 5D and comes with video and a built-in flash.

Its a masterstroke as far as I'm concerned and will make Canon a viable alternative for those considering aesthetics, viewfinders, and weight as well as quality, such as Leica and Fuji.

EOS Bodies / Re: Lower Price Full Frame Camera [CR1]

I would be interested in this if it is lighter than the 5d classic, and a bit smaller.

I really want something a little lighter with a built-in flash, but I'm not willing to give up the large viewfinder and nice image quality of full frame. I also really want video mode, auto ISO in PASM modes, and some wireless transfer built-in would be nice, perhaps with an ftp link run on Android on the backscreen.

I also want a small lens e.g. better 35mm f2 to go with it. As in, USM AF, and better screen coating. While you're at it Canon, how about a non-branded strap to go with my camera so I'm not a walking advert? Canon colours are fine, but I don't want your logo on my shoulder.

I really hope Canon delivers on the cheaper, more useable full frame camera front, because I am unhappy with the level of technology in cameras at the moment relative to smartphones for example, where you can take pics and video then wirelessly transfer everything to the PC (or wherever) when you feel like it.

I do not expect to have to pay extra for wireless functionality in 2012. This should be the price of admission to market these days, not a selling point!

Also while I don't expect every trinket from the 5D3, the AF needs a serious boost, just to compete with 2012 competition e.g. micro four thirds.

Canon is no longer competing with just standard DSLRs in this category anymore, but also with M43 and Fuji x100 etc.

EOS Bodies / Re: Unofficial Canon Mirrorless Concept

I have to say on reflection I'd be happier with the g1x sensor in this body so I can afford it as a second camera. But I'd probably stretch to it anyway being fullframe.

For me the main advantage of full frame is just the bigger viewfinder which is not an issue with mirrorless.

If it were full frame though I probably would just sell my 5D and move to the smaller format, and more asesthetic manual controls. So long as they bring a 24-70 f2.8 or f4.

Also posted in link page: Stunning. Got it just right. From an affordability point of view I would personally need a 35mm f2 rather than that beast if I were to buy it all new.  But the f1.0 would definitely appeal as well after initial purchase.

I did't spot it, but I'd also want a direct button to start video recording at 720p/30fps.

I LOVE the hotshoe design in main body and viewfinder.

40mm pancake. Please let it be EF. And have better contrast, colour and flare resistance than my 35 f2. And maybe have usm too...

Oh well, I guess my features requests are unlikely in a pancake. So long as its EF though, I have no idea why EF-S users would want a approx. 65mm equiv. pancake?!

So long as at least one of them has a built in flash :)

PowerShot Cameras / Re: Canon PowerShot G1 X ISO Sample Images

I wonder what the shutter button feels like? The shutter button on my G9 feels like a toy compared to any SLR, and - I imagine - the likes of the Fuji X100.

I'm really disappointed Canon are pansying around in this market, rather than committing with a useable, small body system with rangefinder styling as per Fuji et al.

I would maybe / probably bought a Canon small interchangeable body to try out for my wife; she could use an adapter with my EOS primes (only 35mm at moment), and we'd gain the onboard flash not present on my 5D for travel / walkaround. We'd be able to take my speedlites along for evenings too. I could live with inferior handling pleasure vs Fuji if the price were right. And I'd save money with existing lenses.

I can't be bothered with another toy camera where if something breaks the whole thing is out of action. Also, with a popular system, batteries and accessories will be around for decades. Not so sure about this odd point and shoot specimen. Obviously its not meant for me. I suppose I'd recommend it to non-photographers who want better pictures but don't want hassle of lenses as per sony nex.

@ Paulo

You don';t mention flash. My first suggestino (one that may result in buying several different kinds of flash and accessories, umbrellas etc. would be to visit strobist.com and read strobist 101: i.e. learn how to use flash off camera and create your own light. This will keep you entertained for a lifetime.

Secondly, I know what you mean about trying somehting new lens wise. I would suggest not going for fisheye as I think on full frame the 15mm looks too wide and specialist. I sold my 15mm fe when I got 5d from 10d.

Instead consider getting a macro e.g. 100m 2.8 used. Play with it. Then if you don't like it - or use it much after a few years - sell it and you won't have lost much if anything :) I donn't have the macro but will probably get one for a few years just to have a play at some point.

The great thing about most lenses is that you can buy and sell used and you don't lose much, it's like putting your money in the bank, or better sometimes :)

I've owned the Sigma, and loved using it on a crop body for wide portraits without weired rectilinear faces. So I wouldn't go with the f4 zoom.

But the Canon version was nicer aesthetically to the Sigma in my opinion. If you hold one, and see that massive glass on the front, you will be in love! But for me, I couldn't afford the £500 price tag (and that was years ago), so I went with the Sigma.

The Canon would definitely be in my lens bag, were money no object. I imagine the collector's price will shoot up now! :(

Typical! I just got the 35 f2 for 5dc two weeks ago. But I love it and my 24-70L is almost anathema now its so big.

I haven't noticed the focusing being slower than my 24-70 which really surprised me, its much faster than the other non-usm lenses I've used.

Even so I don't think any dslr lens should be without usm these days. Its not exactly new technology. Just don't let it get any bigger. Also fixing the flare in direct sunlight would be good. To be honest I'd pay for an L version that was f2 and compact; I love this focal length.

The more I think about this, the less I'm beginning to care! Don't get me wrong I like the Canon products I have but I've pretty much grown tired of waiting for Canon to wake up to the fact I want a good small camera.

I'm very close to ditching my Canon SLR gear and picking up a Fuji X100 and maybe eventually a Leica. I don't like that Canon are being so slow to market, they don't impress me with innovation that I care about any more, that will help me take better family photos, videos and studio shots. I want either an affordable, smallish, superfast, 45 point AF FF SLR with a flash built-in, or a small rangefinder style camera.

Sounds reasonable. I just hope Canon bring out a full frame camera with a built-in flash like Nikon D700 as well as movie mode. Otherwise I might as well ditch my SLR system as I currently use my Canon G9/smartphone for loads of video and unfortunately my 5D stays at home for weeks gathering dust.

With a built-in flash and movie mode I would consider holding off purchase of micro 4/3 or Fuji x100 or waiting for Canon equivalent, and maybe just buy a small 35mm prime.

I would also dearly love to replace my large 24-70L f2.8 with a 24-70 f4 L that was half the size but still had good bokeh and distortion as opposed to the not so great and still fairly large (in my opinion) 24-105L.

Another feature request if anyone from Canon is reading: how many of you would like an option to merge all your video files on SD card to one large video file sorted by time /date e.g. one merged h264 video and aac stereo audio, within an mkv container for easy storage?

This would be a dream for me, as I'm fed up of having my family videos in a million files in the video folder, making them difficult to watch passively in succession.
