Software & Accessories / Re: Best Practices for using a Monopod

Re:  your considering the Manfrotto 393 head....I have not used it but you can google Colin Knight on youtube and watch some of his water bound videos from canoe using this head.  It certainly works, even though as a professional photographer he has apparently now upgraded to Induro Gimbal head for his 500mm Canon F4. He has two different videos that he shot and they both show his setup using the 393.  Very informative for nature photographers.  Check it out. His video shot in Congaree swamp comes to mind. Here's one link.  Another Day at Santee HD

You may want to look at this vendor's feedback before placing a bid. Looks like a little caution may be in order.

Lenses / Chalking on focus rings on L lenses
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:52:41 PM »
Can anyone tell me why some L lenses rubber rings chalk over while some do not and is there an easy fix??

Thks for commentary and suggestions about this phenomenon.  The white powder looking appearance on the rubberized rings of some L lenses is exactly what I'm talking about.  While I'm not paranoid about it, one would have to admit that while browsing sites such as ebay you encounter this condition frequently and given a choice of two equal lenses priced about the same and otherwise similar condition, you are apt to lean toward the one without this condition. Always looking to acquire L lenses but have avoided these in past.

While I don't have this problem on any of my lenses nor have I ever seen it on a new lens, I have often wondered what caused it and if there were any further underlying problems associated with it.  Apparently, based on responses this does not cause any other problems and it is not a mold based issue. Thks for responses

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Anyone still using a 20D?
« on: January 04, 2013, 11:09:44 PM »
I was one of first 20D buyers and still use this camera with BG-E2 grip with various EF lenses, mostly 28-135mm and 70-200mm. I have taken thousands of photos for my grandsons various football and baseball games over the yrs, posted them all on Picassa for fellow parents to see and the camera still works flawlessly.  Would love a 5D Mark III but being retired, I'll have to wait until prices eventually come down to a more modest level. Meanwhile, I'll just keep using my trusty 20D.  You might choose to retain yours as a back up, once you have upgraded.   :)
