Lenses / Re: 100L vs. 135L
« on: Today at 10:12:40 AM »
I have the 100L and I love it.

It's a proper do-it-all lens. Not too short, not too long, sharp as anything, IS built in, and there's also macro which can be lots of fun.

The 135L is an amazing lens but might be a tad restrictive in some circumstances.

Upgrade the 24-70 2.8L to the Mk II version.

Spend the money you make by selling the Mk I on a EF135 2.0L

You've now got an awesome mid-range zoom and an awesome telephoto.

And, probably, change to spend on other goodies.

An SSD would be less susceptible to knocks. No moving parts. Just sayin'  :)

Yeah, I vaguely recall seeing footage of an Airbus at an airshow where they were doing a slow, wheels-down fly-by. The onboard computer decided they were to land in some nearby trees while the pilot tried to give it full power and save the aircraft.

Amazing what a few lines of bad coding can do.

That had nothing to do with computers and the pilot was no hero. The idiot was showing off and misjudged the distance to the edge of the runway. The sound of the engines going full power was him realising he had messed up.

There were over 20 girl guides on that plane too.

He got two years inside for endangering people's lives.

You can wait and save money, but the reason you've saved that money is that you're ever closer to the next model coming out and devaluing your pride and joy.

At which point it all starts again... 8)

Software & Accessories / Re: Adobe Creative Cloud - Adobe Owns you!

When have they ever stopped the psd format from working? For as long as I can remember there has been the Maximize Compatibility option.

This is Adobe, who champions dng as an archival file format.

I have it and, apart from under the hood changes (it's definitely snappier), there really isn't much difference.

Shake Reduction filter? Hasn't amazed me so far.

The rest? nothing special to report.

The UI is identical to CS6.

Basically, the reason they don't want to sell this in a box for a lump sum, is that there really isn't enough there to justify it.

It's CS6 with a boost and a couple of new filters.

Whoopee…

Buy CS6 and live happily ever after.

Would you pose for a photo while carrying a secret piece of equipment?

About a week ago for me…  ;D

Why do they insist on bundling those stupid straps still? The ones from my 5D2 and 5D3 are still in their boxes, untouched. I just can't use something like that. It feels like some of the money has been wasted.

The last decent strap I got with a brand new Canon was a nice Domke which came with my EOS 1n back in 1996.

It's been on every SLR I've owned since.

Software & Accessories / Photoshop CC Released Today
« on: June 17, 2013, 02:43:46 AM »
That's right people, it's the 17th June. The day that it is widely reported to be the big day.

For those waiting to get hold of the trial and see what it's like, not to mention that deblurring filter we were teased with last year, keep an eye on the Adobe page for the trial to appear.

Enjoy!

Had an awesome one today. The page was about the equivalent of five normal pages long and had masses of code in different colours snaking side to side.

Please check your servers to see if there are mushrooms growing in them.

The lens makes a lot of difference. MF is a pleasure on the 100 2.8L IS.

You bought a £2,300 camera and put a £80 on it?

Keep saving for an L lens and you'll see a big difference.
