In churches you often don't have a lot of light and trying to track a subject down the aisle at f2.8 with no chance of a re-take is a big effort!

Pick up a generic one, they used plastic instead... not bad build quality, same form factor and battery/button setups... but considerably lighter.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF-S 18-300 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM on the Way? [CR1]

Very interested to see this.

Last year I searched and searched for the 28-300 and found a good version and used it twice in 12 months.... i travel a lot and as a PJ lens it was just too damn heavy and obvious.... I'm currently away working in sicily and i have the 24-105 and 70-200IS on my mk3s, but would settle for slightly lower quality optics in exchange for one camera body and a decent range.

I actually almost kept my 7D and bought the 18-200 until i saw reviews for it.

I'm looking forward to seeing this... the 24, 28 primes, and the 400+ lenses that have been announced recently don't really do  anything for me, but this actually is really interesting.

nice now they have another reason to increase prices even more...

i payed 435 euro for my 450d when it came out now a same entry model already costs 525 euro and theat he time i bought it the 40d was 695 euro now the 60d costs 775 euro but its almost due for a replacement already.
lenses went even op more lately some lenses even doubled in prices when the new version came out.

im sure canon wil abuse this event to raise prices even more.

80-90 euro over 4-5 years isn't that bad I don't think.

form factor is still awkward on all the new cameras (all brands)...... they must have shares in redrock

I think if a 3d is going to be released as a high mp camera it has to be aimed at the studio.

High MP
Avg AF
Low FP
Amazing DR
Amazing IQ
5d3 level low light

Sport is covered by the 1dx, and general is covered by the 5d3...

I have 2 of these cards and 2 64gb pros and neither are giving me any problems.

Did you get them from a genuine dealer? They may be fakes

Why would the number be lower than the 5Dx

What you are suggesting is:
1dx -> 5dmk3 -> 4d -> 7d/60d etc

Doesn't make sense

Is the geographical restrictions based on legality of the radio frequency?

i know that the USA Pocketwizards have a different frequency to the AUS ones... and it's apparently not legal to import and sell the US ones?

Meh. I love the mk3.

The Nikon ergonomics aren't there for me. Might be my weird hands, but i shoot 50% of the time with d3x's (Clients choice) and 50% with Canon mk3s (my choice).

In my opinion the AF, Low light capabilities, rate button and dual slots made it the perfect upgrade for me from a mk2...

However i wouldn't think it's good enough to upgrade from a 1dsmk3.... and i don't think it's bad enough to swap to a d800.

I found the 3 part video series that was posted the other day to be a great analysis of the two cameras. Especially the video quality of the d800 vs mk3.

I sent some questions to the Ebay seller and I have just received a lot of news about the grip  :) :) :) :)

Quote

Dear Cristian,

As you asked before some questions about the product material and if it is really waterproof and dustproof,  let me give you some "last minute" information regarding the Pixel Grip.

The Grip is made of ABS plastic.

---------------
A plastic of acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene; has good resistance to impact, heat, and chemicals; esp. used for piping.

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)

ABS plastic is what your Playstation 1 shell (or other console system plastic shell) is made out of. It’s also what most Gundams are made out of. ABS is much harder, and is typically smooth. You can add texture to it, but it’s typically not a very fine texture.

ABS is made from a combination of monomers made from propylene, ammonia, butane, and coal. The advantage is that it combines the strength and rigid properties, as well as the rubbery toughness (ABS can bend without snapping). ABS is by far the strongest plastic used for making figurines. So while PVC is soft and rubbery in resilience, ABS is tough and rigid.

----------------

The grip protection level is IP41

http://www.altechcorp.com/PDFS/TECHsp.PDF

It is not "waterproof", you can't put it under water (as the camera) but it will resist an slightly rain.
The grip IS dustproof.

Another interesting info is: We will have a sample grip on our hands by the next monday, so we will be making a "hands on review" next week before the release date and will also upload a video review of it.

Market Release date has not changed: Jun/10th... but who knows, perhaps earlier pre-orderers would have a surprise ;)

If I could be for further help, don't hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Augusto Rehm

Thanks for the info! I preordered a couple yesterday. $90 vs $360-$400 each in Aus... I've had both genuine and non genuine grips and never had a problem!

Lenses / Re: 50mm 1.2
« on: May 18, 2012, 08:50:34 PM »
My 50 is permanently mounted to one of my 5ds. My absolute favourite lens.

If budget isn't an issue. Hire both, the feel, picture quality and bokeh will sell it to you then

The 1.4 and 1.8 are both fantastic lenses and very well priced also, but the 1.2 is brilliant.
