If you don't need macro, the Canon G1x is a very good compact camera

I would have liked in the review to see the shallowest DOF this camera can achieve. Everything you showed didn't isolate anything. My biggest gripe is the slow lens, not size or price.in low light the G1X works fantastic ¡¡, if you like you can see some exemples on my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/gonzalovidalsoler/
My next issue would be low light shooting. I would hope that teh larger sensor would help, but then back to the slow lens, I am hesistant to test with my wallet.
However, what you did show looked great.
I sold my G9 and the change is fantastic, the bokeh imo is similar to big cameras like 450D, i agree is too expensive for a compact camera especially if you don't use as me video nor jpg where all effects and escenes are. Why only shot 4:3 in raw canon?¡i'm enjoying very much my little hermaphroditeThe in focus areas are great, the out of focus areas are pretty rough. I have the G12, and while nice for snapshots I've found the bokeh to be unbearably bad. Looks like they haven't really worked on that much. Sad.
