Lenses / Re: Question Sir/ Madam.

On the other hand, why not an EF-S 24mm F2.0 pancake, rather than F2.8 ? More interesting, for those (like me) who still have APS-C format.

Lenses / Re: Introducing the Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II
« on: November 17, 2014, 05:01:59 PM »
Just to share my experience.

This weekend I tried the 100-400 II at a photo exhibition in Paris.
Canon did not allowed me to use my SD card in the 5DMK3 because “it not a released product yet”.

I have been very impressed by this lens. I compared it with the Canon 100-400 1(push pull) and the Sigma and Tamron new 150-600.
The IS seems to be vastly improved and I could do clear picture handheld at 400 with a very low light. Compared to Nikon zoom on D810, it seems far better.
The lens was also very sharp, probably sharper than the Sigma zoom that is already impressive.
Of course this is just my feeling as I could not take the shot with me and compare directly.

I am looking forward to more accurate comparisons but for me, the GAS syndrome is not too far ;)

+1 : I tried it at "Salon de la Photo" event in Paris today. I was neither not allowed to use my SD card, same reason. Neither my camera (a 7D), since not attached with a security cable :-). Hence, I tried it on a 7D II. It's so impressive : AF is so fast (at 100 mm & 400mm), much than my 70/200 F4 IS, images look so sharp, in low light and low speed (around 1/60, I think). Lightweight. (half of the sigma 150-600 Sport...). A lot of advantages wrt Sigma & Tamron. Just a raw feeling, once again.

Lenses / Re: Why are Zeiss lenses manual?
« on: September 12, 2013, 03:02:04 PM »
So far I've read (I'm not expert in optic design), there is a large difference in the optic design of the lens : it's manual, due to a larger (and heavier) group of moving lenses inside the lens itself (sorry for my poor english). A lens having an AF has a smaller (and lighter) moving group, so that the AF engine CAN move it. The result is that the optical quality can be better, with such a manual lens design.
Well, I'm owning one (35mm F2), and I'll should keep it... The IQ difference is very noticeable. Not to mention the colour rendition... That should inspire other manufacturers...

You may go at the Trocadéro place, the Eiffel tower looks reasonably small there, having the full DOF.
Another place [than the Concorde bridge, where were taken the long exposures shots above], is the "Place de Catalogne", near Montparnasse station. There, the ET looks smaller than a person, once again, at a reasonable view point, allowing a full DOF.
Sorry, I can't publish my pic about that.

+1 with you, Azezal. Unfortunately, it seems we are few.

I think the GPS is a useless addon, provided you have a smartphone + an inexpensive appli like GPS4cam. It offers IMO the same benefits of an integrated GPS. I'd rather like Canon focus on photographic specs rather than these useless peripheral specs, that cost a lot for a very weak added value. The smartphones HAVE a GPS, we have a smartphone always with us, bar.
About the WIFI, this could be differerent, but there is too a dedicated grip... So ? I really do prefer high iso performances for less MP, weather sealing, and a lower price... I'm maybe old fashioned ?

14th of July, 2009. Only that year, the fireworks were fired from the Eiffel tower, not from the ground around.
