Neuroanatomist,

Thanks. I just noticed it on the DP review specs list (last line) must have overlooked that before. Thanks a million.

Neuroanatomist,

Thanks. It's pretty hard to find any mention that this lens is compatible in any of the Canon websites or manuals or even third party reviews.

Cheers,
Peter

Great. I assume this means it returns distance to the camera's E-TTL-II for use with Canon EX II speedlites (such as 430 EX II)?

Can anyone tell me if the Canon EF-S 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 IS lens is E-TTL-II compatible? On a compatible body(i.e. 7D or 600D (T3i) of course.

Lighting / Re: Flash/Speedite for 7D and 600D (Rebel T3i)

I should add, that I/we have also got a third party wireless trigger off ebay (see http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251175507175?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649), so that isn't an issue, but for indoor macro set ups will prefer to use the 7D and 600D master optical controls so as to take advantage of the TTL function seeing that our extension tubes provide metering.

I am already thinking about a 600 EX-RT (as well as a 430 EX II) to future proof at least one of our flashes.

My wife and I are enthusiasts (in Australia) with a 7D and 600D and are considering our first speedlite purchase. We will get two so that we can have a macro and portrait set up with two flashes (operating wirelessly from the camera master control). We are considering getting two Canon 430 EX II, but could make one of them the 600 EX-RT if there was a compelling reason to spend h extra money. Comments/experiences sought.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Lenses / Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM Lens as walk around lens

Would like to get some views of the above mentioned lens as a walk around super zoom for a 7d (but quite likely to upgrade to FF some time in the future). I currently have a 18-200mm but can sometimes need the extra focal length.

Lenses / Re: Canon EF-S 18-200MM IS slow to auto focus

I am finding my new EF-S 18-200mm IS lens quite slow to autofocus. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?
Quite slow is not a very descriptive term, does it tale 0.5 sec, 5 sec, or 5 minutes?  Are you focusing from mfd to infinity, or from 5 ft to10ft?  You could have a bad lens, or it could be normal.  We really can't tell, and assumptions are often wrong.
Comparing focus time with a lens like the 50mm f/1.4 will make the 50mm look fast, it does not move the internal mechanism nearly as much as iin the 18-200.

OK, I only had this lens a short time and no other experience with a 11X zoom. I bought Canon (over Tamron, et al) as I thought it would be superior (reviews certainly preferred it).

It was an internal evening shot last night on around 170mm photographing my wife (before and after shots) of a cosmetic treatment. Distance to subject was around 1 to 1.5 metres (didn't measure it exactly). To begin with it would not focus at all. So I exchanged it for the EF 75-300 mm kit lens, which instantly focused. OK obviously not a problem with the camera, then cleaned the contacts on the 18-200 lens and tried again. This time it did focus but took quite a while compared to the 75-300. How long I don't know for sure as I didn't time it.

Sorry for the lack of precision.
