I have not used the Sigma, but did own the Canon 180L.  It is a tremendous lens with great IQ, but heavy to handhold for an extended period of time.  Ideal for tripod/studio work, but without IS/OS, it has its limitations in the wild.
 
I sold it and purchased the 100L, primarilly due to teh HIS feature.  Sure I need to get a bit closer to the subject, but overall, I am happy with the change.
 
I would push you toward the Canon because the L glass keeps great resell value.

1D4 is a monstrous upgrade from the 7D.  There is a large quantity of them available in the used market, just be cautious of the shutter count.  Many are high usage from pros and serious amatuers that have move to the 1DX.


IMO, if a low mile body (<100k shutter) could be found in the $3k ~ $3.5k range, then well worth the money.

I have used the RS-7 for a couple of years and followed the sage advice from Neuro about using a 1" Kirk clamp with some LocTite blue on the fastener.


Never have had an issue or concern carrying any body/lens combo.


Stuff happens all the time, but the BR strap and Kirk clamp are great combo.

It is a fantastic unit, especially for the MP-E 65 lens.  Definitely look at getting the Sto-Fen diffusers.

I use ZAGG InvisiShield on all my LCD products, especially my camera bodies.  ZAGG product includes smaller protectors for top and bottom windows, as well as, the main LCD.


All are good, personal preference is ZAGG.

+1 Agree.  Have had 180mm Macro for couple of years, not fast focus, but definitely not squeaky.  Probably a copy issue.
