EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: New monitor
« on: April 27, 2012, 11:26:21 AM »
I have the Dell U2410, it's a great choice for photo editting and gaming. I use an Ezio CG243W and a Dell U2410 at work, both monitors are color calibrated using the Xrite i1 pro. I personally can only see a slight difference between the two. So I bought the Dell when I needed a new monitor. I say get the Dell and save some money.

I use a DROBO with Western Digital HDs. I have 3-2TB WD drives in my computer and I back up my best pictures again to a 2 TB WD stand alone unit. I quit using Seagate HDs after 1 to many failures. I've never had a problem with any of my Western Digital drives.

I've bought the Pixma Pro-1 and I have to say I love it so far. The first week I had it I must have printed 20 8x10s. Both in color and b/w. The b/w with this printer is outstanding. The color is better than average.

I got mine in January, I used it for a few weeks and then I've let it sit for almost a month now. Tonight I just turned it back on and printed another picture and everything seems fine to me. No clogs, no trouble with the paper feed like some have reported either. Now the printer is a little thristy when it comes to ink. I've already changed out my inks. And it loves the chromia optimizer tank also. I will have to change that tank before I print again.

Overall it's a very good printer, a little big, but at least it's nice to look at and it prints like a charm.

I will buy the 5D mkIII no matter how much it costs, that's IF there isn't another camera body coming out at the end of the year (3D). I will only have a few months out of this year to actually travel and take pictures. So I would hate to buy a new camera and not be able to shoot with it for 6 months. For now I will buy the 24-70 L II and use it on my 5DmkII. Who knows what the prices and availablity will be at the end of December. It should be in stock everywhere and there might be a discount on the body by then. Or the 3D High MP monster might be announced by then. I will cross that bridge when I get there.

Software & Accessories / Re: Canon Pixma Pro-1 Review Sneak Peak

Congradulations on the printer. I will be waiting for the review, even though I have just bought the Epson 4900 today. Canon just waited too long. I"ve pre-ordered mine back in October and Adorama still doesn't have it in stock yet.  :-\

Software & Accessories / Re: Canon Pixma Pro-1: has anyone used one yet?

The only real information about the printer is what I have found on Adorama TV. Mark Wallace did a product review on it and from the video it looks like a pretty awesome printer.

I have pre-ordered mine back in October and I've been waiting for it to be delievered. At the time I wasn't in a rush for the printer so the wait has not be unbearable for me. But last week my printer has finally kicked the bucket and I NEED the printer. So I will give Canon till the end of January to release some solid information on it or I will cancel my order and get the Epson 4900 or the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF6350.

I gave away both my 18-55 & 55-250 to the neighbor's daughter. She has an old XS and the lens has a scratch and chip in the front lens. So I just gave them away instead of them collecting dust.  She is taking a photography class in High School and her parents don't extra money to spend on lens. I think she's used the lens more than I ever have. I've gave that girl all kinds of stuff I don't use anymore.

I have recently bought the Sony NEX-5N, I wanted something with better image quality than my G12 but smaller/lighter than my 5DMII & 7D. I think Canon is missing out on this Niche market. They wouldn't have to create a whole new lens line. Just use the EF-S mount and you'll have a instant line of quality lens for the new camera. They wouldn't have to make it compatible with the EF mount, because I doubt someone is going to attach a 70-200L II to something so small.

I would just hope that the image quality is better than the NEX-5N. After comparing the camera against my 7D, the 7D beats it hands down in performance. Even with my 18-55 kit lens.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon refuses to fix there own camera

I've always thought Ryther's was a bait-&-switch type of operation. I could be wrong. Most respectable  stores won't carry a gray market camera here in the US. At least they will tell you it's a gray or not. You should always get the business checked out before purchasing anything.

After exhaustive test shooting for the calibration of my 7D for my Sekonic lightmeter, it seems that my camera's native ISO is multiples of 200. I base this off of the dynamic range that is given for each of the various ISO. With 200 being the best and the multiples being within the 0.1 - 0.3 range of it. ISO 100 was actually 5.4 compared to ISO 200 of 6.3 . And field testing of my camera between ISO 100 and 200 seem to verify the results.
