EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon 5D Mk3 Reliability
« on: Today at 04:34:29 AM »
Much better than the mk2.
(The batteriegrip didnt fit well, didnt notice the screw was a bit loose, and suddenly the whole camera didnt respond although it had energy.)

Generally the mk3 feels more solid. Little drawback: bit larger, heavier.

The cable: check for "oc3". Canon offers it, many third- party products available in different shapes and lenghts.
But this doesnt open the door to radiocontrolled heaven...

The expanded points are the backup, if the main field doesnt catch up.
The more points are allowed to find structure to focus, the more it could be unpredictable.

Technical Support / Re: CF Card Corrupted
« on: May 22, 2013, 03:15:58 AM »
2 times strange things happened:
August 12 after a longer burst with the 1D4 and a Sandisk extreme 60mb/s it froze, showed err02, before I could do anything, the message disappeared, no loss.
A few days ago: a shorter burst, 5 or 6 frames, it showed err02 again, it changed only after I waited a few seconds, switched the camera off, then on again. The pictures werent on the CF - card, but on the SD- card. The CF was a Transcend 1000x.

I formatted every card I have the first time on the PC too, then in the camera too.
Too few days gone, but no issues. I will see.......

Since 30 years I have carried my stuff nearly everywhere.
Beaches, mountains, small planes, sailing boats. Never felt unsecure, just thought a few seconds about safety (belt wrapped around my hand, will there be drops of salty water...), but then you should forget this and simply make pictures.
Never had a problem.

Sounds like an advertisment, but: just do it!

3 great lenses.
I have and use them.

If I had to choose only one, it would be the 70-200.
Yes, the IS is very good. Never believed before this could be so helpful.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: my new 5D3 battery life
« on: May 17, 2013, 12:36:33 PM »
Make a "Calibration". This means: one time load the battery, till its full, then use it, till the camera shuts down after ??? shots, doesnt matter with or without liveview, making video etc.
So the camera "know" the capacity.
Then the percentage of remainig power should be more exact.

But- as mentionend before- Lion cells dont like to be loaded full or empty, they like to be between 40 and 80% (loads of information is on the net).

A 1000 shots with one load is ok, I think.

Without looking at the shot on the LCD: over 1000 shot minimum. With looking at every shot, depends how long btw, 500 apr.
Loading: keep a Lion- accu between 40 and 80%, this is its comfort zone.

I own (a license) for PS CS6.
I dont like the monthly fee, because I want to decide if I need the latest s* or not.

Like someone mentioned before: its like Canon forces you to have the latest model.
(I´m still happy with my 1D4).
And I want to decide to pay the package once when I want.

Its not the money, I have enough. I simply dont like to be pushed in the "rental" path.

My 2 €- cents.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Do you trust your camera?
« on: May 11, 2013, 04:07:39 PM »
Yes to the cameras, no to the humans. This is me and my errors, and the erratic behaviour of humans, growing logarithmic with their number.
Closed (and espacially halfclosed) are the classic non- keepers.

Hm. So my copy of CS6 will stay a looong time with me.

And sure this will make me look around for alternatives.

As mentioned before: a Polarizer would be helpful.
