Lenses / Re: EF 100-400mm ii vs. EF 200-400 with 1.4 TC
« on: January 22, 2015, 07:14:01 PM »
To my surprise, the 100-400 II was sharper than the 200-400L, especially when the 1.4x was enabled on the latter lens. This could have also been that the 200-400 was not adjusted to my 6D.
Vignetting is very visible on the 100-400 though.

Lenses / Re: EF 400mm f/5.6L USM vs Tamron 150-600?

As good as the 400mm is optically, I'd never buy a telephoto lens without stabilisation. Never ever.
Why never ever? I use the 400 f/5.6L and get some sweet results...
I easily get sharp photos at 1/100 or lower:

EOS Bodies / Re: The Always Hidden Camera at the World Cup

I've been watching a lot of matches and I swear I got a glimpse of some lenses I've never seen before (ex. 100-400 II). However I don't remember anymore which matches those were at, and have no screen captures or anything.
It's sure there is new equipment being tested out in the field, it's just a matter of time someone see's it and captures it.

I was surprised to see some old primes like the 400 f/2.8 II (non IS) being used, or non gripped EOS cameras. Seems to me that at these kind of events you have the newest and best  ???

Someone needs to come out with a current high quality 400mm f5.6 prime.  I would switch systems for a high quality handheld bird lens.
I think that there are a lot of people interested in a new version of the 400F5.6.... I would get it....

I love my 400mm f/5.6L... Is there anything this "lot" of people need from it that it doesn't have/do?! Weather sealing, sure, but asides from that I love it's relatively light weight and small size without IS/zoom/wider aperture - coupled with the 5D3 sensor's ISO handling this thing's even incredible when losing daylight!
I guess closer focusing would be nice but that'd maybe ruin the magical optical formula! ;)
I agree, my 400mm is a very nice lens, fun to play with it when coupled with the 2x II extender.
My 6D's ISO allows me to be less limited to the 5.6 aperture than when I was shooting with a Rebel.
Although, I still really wished I had IS, which is why I sometimes hesitate on getting a 100-400L, but other than that I love everything about prime.
I find myself not being able to do extreme panning handheld because of the lack of IS :(

Lens isn't listed on Sigma's Global site. The links directed to it don't work, and error occurs.
Perhaps they aren't ready to release it?

Lenses / Re: flying with 600f4 or 400f2.8

It shouldn't be a problem flying with a 600 f/4 as carry on. You may have to pay extra depending on airline baggage fees. Are you flying WestJet? It would be good to contact them.
Btw your siggy isn't up to date  ;D

What lens are you using for these shots Jan?
Looks like a 400?

Great shots, really sharp - this is what I am looking for.
Thanks  ;D !
I was mostly using my friend's 100-400L, but I think some some shots were with my 400 f/5.6L.

70-200 will be too short for flying aircraft. Depending where your standing, it will be good for when they are taxing to the RWY or close to the audience.
If you don't want to spend a lot, 100-400L or 400 f/5.6L will be great. Ideal choice would be 500 f/4L or a 300 f/2.8L with converters. If you have 2 bodies it makes things a lot easier.
For fighter jets, try and keep the shutter speed high as they are quick!!
Prop jets, 1/100 is a sweet spot to get full prop discs but it can vary and you might need to go as low as 1/60.

EOS Bodies / Re: EOS 70D a New Benchmark in ISO Performance?
« on: July 07, 2013, 10:55:01 PM »
a 70D doing better than 6D in ISO performance is all possible.
Just like a 6 cylinder car out doing a 8 cylinder car of the same engine capacity because they have new technology applied. but when then new tech is apply to the 8 cylinder engine it will over come again.

So APS-c do better than FF for a while, then FF improve again.
Why on earth would they make a 1200$ camera that outperforms the 6D? Then no one would buy the 6D because it would only be advantaged to having GPS. The 6D has benchmark ISO performance, currently the best on the market which is why it attracks so many low light shooters.

So if i'm living in Canada I can't get the rebate because it goes on American Express credit card?

There's already a video of the 70D, it's actually smaller than the 60D!

It hasn't even been announced and he's hating like he's had it for 5 years now  :P
Some people will do anything to get attention. Spend more time learning about photography than judging camera specs etc. After all, it's how you use the camera..

The 6D already comes with the 24-70 f/4L as a kit at Vistek in Canada:
