EOS Bodies / Re: popup-flash - made a "pro feature"?

On the 7D I use the build in flash only to trigger speedlights, but that works great in most indoor an macro situations.

Third Party Manufacturers / Excellent Customer Service "Cullmann"
« on: February 04, 2014, 05:56:36 AM »
I have a more than 10 years old "Cullmann Clamp".
It is a really handy and stable support for Cameras or Speedlites.
But I managed to break of the clamping plate (pictures attached).
So I wrote a mail to Cullmann Germany describing my problem and requesting a replacement part.
They answered within 3 hours asking for my Address.
And 2 days later a free replacement screw was in my mail!
I think that is an excellent example of great and uncomplicated customer service.

I am very positively surprised by that and wanted to share it.

I got the zoom-Ring and lensmount section exchanged on mine last year for about 140€.
( It hat a bad time coliding with a marmot table breaking out a piece of it )

Also nice that it takes 77mm Filters by mounting them on the filter thread on the  screw in hood.

EOS Bodies / Re: Patent: A Pellicle Mirror by Canon
« on: November 01, 2013, 05:22:07 AM »
Now I think I see all this coming together.
A translucent mirror on its own makes something like the sony dslr possible, but they don't have OVF.
In the "classic" canon dslr there is the secondary mirror reflecting light down towards the AF-sensor, so just a translucent mirror would not be possible in connecting with the current AF-systems. (The secondary mirror would be in the lightpath towards the sensor)
But in connection with the new dual-pixel AF it all makes sense!
The variable translucent mirror provides light for the OVF and Sensor ( with its ability for good phase-detection AF).
An can when necessary provide more or less light for one of them by cutting the light towards the other.

Outdoor sports cenario: 50% OVF 50% Sensor 1 stop light loos for Sensor but that us not a problem with good light (or today's ISO ability )
Super fast frame rate ( not limited by the mirror system) and no viewfinder darkening at all.

Low light cenario: for the capture the mirror directs all light towards the sensor or for a short time for better AF or towards the OVF for MF

Lenses / Re: 70-200 Halo issue?
« on: September 15, 2013, 07:58:15 AM »
I can reproduce the effect with my september 2012 produktion 70-200 but it is not by any means that strong.
It is noticeable in VF and on fotos but only when I point my Led Lenser p7 ( that thing has a laser danger sticker on it ) directly into it and focus and zoom so it comes up.
That is so bright that even with a ND X8 in front of the VF it hurts my eyes and I can't really look at it.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Whats wrong with my XTi
« on: September 13, 2013, 03:18:43 AM »
I had a Problem  wit my 7D it depletes  Batteries in a few days when shut off and would not communicate with the battery correctly.
After it annoyed me some time I took it to canon services.
The Employee there said that they can check it but it would cost 40€ and would probably take a while.
So I tried  to convince him that i don't want  to be without my 7D and 40€ and he tried to convince me that there could be a serious issue with my camera and that it could be a lose screw lying on the dc/dc board that could fall loose and onto another board and kill the camera...
so 10 min later he had taken the camera apart in front of my eyes and he was right... !
three of the screws that hold the dc/dc board where missing, one was on the board on was magnetic hanging on the shuttercookingmotor and one was loose in the case...
Screws put back in and the case put back on my 7D now performs normal again for half a year.
On the 350D ( I have one converted to IR ) there is no real communication between camera and battery so the draining battery could be the only sign of a lose screw...

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: How strong is the hotshoe?
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:26:36 AM »
With the 70-200 defenitiv Not!
but 7D and 50mm 1.4 sometimes get grabbed by the Flash and I never hat a Problem with that.
The Part that holds the hotshoemount is the desingend breakingpoint, but it is not that fragile.

Sports / Re: Horses / Horseriding etc

Heavy overcasted day mixed with rain.

I switch cards between cameras for years and never hat a problem with that.

I don´t know for the 400D but some of the old cameras  (350D as example) have problems with formatting huge cards.
So format it in the 5DII

EOS Bodies / Re: 'Revolutionary' Dual Pixel AF Explained
« on: July 26, 2013, 12:39:32 PM »
Thinking about every pixel being used für phase-detection-AF, so also there will be the Bayer filter in front of them making the AF system able to recognize the color of the AF-subject.
So this could lead to a really good hold on to AF-Servo-targets when there is a Color Difference towards the background or obstacles.
Maybe the next 1D will have an AF sensor of this type... think of an viewfinder-AF with 10.000.000 AF-Points and an intelligent binding system with a dot-matrix lcd overlay...

Lighting / Re: Is my 430EX dead?
« on: July 03, 2013, 02:31:55 AM »
That Sound is normal it is the charging circuit holding the flash capacitor fully charged.
My bet would be the tube.
I have one 430EX with a dead tube that is behaving the same way.
Canon will replace the hole flash head part for about 150€
Is the zoom working properly?

At the moment I am waiting for an replacement tube to arrive from taiwan.
But replacing it yourself is not that easy and requires soldering.

Get the Old ones Out and some New eneloops in there :)
If you cant solder yourself let someone  else do it for you.
Solltest du in der Nähe von Hamburg sein würde ich das auch für dich machen bei Interesse.
