EOS Bodies / Re: Bogus Canon Rebate Prices at B&H
« on: April 14, 2013, 06:15:28 PM »
Savvy buyers know that the first few hours of the rebate, when prices are still "in flux" is when the best deals happen. Sometimes the prices are even set incorrectly as the retailers don't rebate off the right base amount.

I scooped up the 6D+24-105mm deal this morning for $2199... and I added a 70-300 IS for $199.

After I sell the 70-300 IS for $300 and the 24-105mm for $700 I will have my $1200 6D body :)

Still extremely expensive, as soon as the BMC 4K camera hits the stores.
For another $2K less you get 4K instead of 1080p, 10-bit prores instead of 8-bit 4:2:0 H.264, and global shutter.
Yes, I know it does have some downsides. But it's much cheaper, and better where it counts most (to me).

$2K less? isn't the price difference only $1K?

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon USA Rebates Starting April 14, 2013 [CR3]
« on: April 13, 2013, 11:30:20 AM »
does any one have the historical rebates.  I am interested to see how the values changes over time (as well as which lens and cameras are included)

For individual lenses you can check out canon price watch, the graph at the bottom of the page shows the historic rebates.

e.g. the 70-200 II has been on rebate for the last year pretty much

Canon General / Re: Living in Canada - buy Canon Mark iii in USA cheaper?
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:54:29 PM »
I live in Vancouver and would like to purchase the above.  I would like to know:

1) Where is the cheapest/best place in Canada to buy this camera?

PhotoPrice is your friend:
http://www.photoprice.ca/product/03868/Canon-EOS-5D-Mark-III-price.html

It compares all the prices of US stores to Canadian stores including tax & shipping. (Make sure you set your province to 'BC')

Looks like cheapest for warranty (non grey market) is Adorama shipped to Vancouver for $3380.05 incl tax.

Cheapest Canadian is Aden shipped to Vancouver for $3665.03 incl tax.

2) Is it better to drive across the border and purchase from the USA (eg have B&H deliver to a UPS in Washington state to pick up?

If you plan on declaring it at the border -- you will have to pay tax anyway. The only thing you save is about $20 of shipping as shipping to the US is free and shipping to Canada is about $20.

If you don't plan on declaring it at the border you'll save the HST.

how often does this lens come on sale? I've been eyeing it for quite sometime and haven't seen anything except on e(vil)bay for similar items or used.

Pricewatch Deals / Massive Nikon D600+24-85VR Deal - $1996
« on: December 14, 2012, 01:02:32 AM »
Nikon has a massive deal on the D600 (full-frame) with 24-85VR - $1996 now, as of midnight. Most stores are throwing in lots of extras too.

http://www.nikonpricewatch.com/product/04031/Nikon-D600-with-24-85mm-Kit-price.html

Makes the 6D body-only at $2099 look like a complete joke.

Does it really save a bit after the handling charge, custom duties and taxes and will the Canon Canada honor the USA warranty ?

Just curious.

For sure. First of all, the US warranty works in Canada, and the final price calculation according to photoprice:

From B&H:

$3599.00
+$33.30 S&H
+$0.00 Duty
+$13.26 Brokerage Fee
+$467.87 Tax (13%)
$4113.43 USD
x 1.016 exchange rate includes 2.5% exchange fee
= $4179.24

From cheapest Canadian store Vistek

$3899.00
+$0.00 S&H
+$506.87 Tax (13%)
= $4405.87

$225 more in Canada for the exact same thing with the same warranty.
