Not a problem. I actually misread your opening message. Missed the last paragraph the first time.
I will see if I have any useful thoughts on how to help you solve this :)
May be you would like to go in this direction?

May be even render some clouds, but obviously better than I did ^_^

I think flipping the picture horizontally helps.

The issue resolves when I change from "North American General Purpose 2" to "Monitor Color" in "Color Settings" (Ctrl+Shift+K). But I don't think that's the right way to do it?

Hello! I've been struggling with this issue recently. I'm not sure what exactly I could have done that would cause something like this.

Problem is as follows:

If say I open up the color picking screen for a brush and put 0/0/255 as RGB values, then it shows as purple in the toolbar, even though it paints with proper blue.

This is really confusing at times. If you could help me out, I'd be very thankful :)

Lenses / Re: Budget wide-angle for FF

Thanks a lot for the heads up. Looks like I know what I'll be getting now. One question though. Is there any difference between picking up Samyang or a Rokinon (which from what I understand is the same thing, but rebranded). Are they absolutely the same and Rokinon is just a North American name of Samyang?

Lenses / Budget wide-angle for FF
« on: November 09, 2012, 08:45:08 AM »
Hello!

As of this moment my only lens is 85 f/1.8 and I am in dire need of something wider for landscape, architecture and some street photography.

Next year I am going to get myself some quality L lenses, but in the meantime I still would like to shoot stuff :)

I need the lens to be under $300, and within the 16-40mm range. I'm fine with both prime or zoom.
Need it sharp at F4-F6.3.

I'm leaning towards purchasing the recent 40mm pancake, though realising that it is not quite wide enough.

Which other lenses should I take note of? What good stuff is available at this price in the 16-24-28mm range?

Would I be correct to assume that my best bet is a used 24 f/2.8?

5D MK III Sample Images / Re: 5D III w/100 MACRO - Background "Specs"

I have some of those myself, a red one and a couple of blue ones.
It is the dust on the sensor I believe. Sooner or later almost everyone is bound to have those. Unless pixel is dead black or dead white then it is of not much concern and should be fixed when you eventually are going to have the insides cleaned. This kind of thing manifests itself usually on higher f/'s, so people who shoot strictly portraits or within the f/4 probably would not even notice it. Much more common to be a concern for landscapers. As far as I know Photoshop automatically desaturates pixels like this. And you could program your camera for automatic dust deletion too (refer to the manual, "Dust Delete Data").

PS: some people say that using "Manual Sensor Cleaning" option in the menu's and leaving the mirror locked for 30-60 seconds and then turning the camera off helped with this, but I did not have that much luck with it.

Lenses / 5D Mark III / EF 85 1.8 - General Portraiture AFMA
« on: August 17, 2012, 05:32:50 AM »
Unfortunately I do not have the option to perform a full calibration at the moment, so I am going to have to settle with AFMA for at least one more month.

I understand that in most cases settings are different for different units, but I am just curious as to what AFMA settings people use for head / torso / full body shots.

I myself find that mine produces slightly sharper images at +5, when shooting from a ~1m. distance.

Lenses / Re: Shooting people with a 16-35... Any good ?
« on: May 06, 2012, 11:46:42 AM »
In no way is 16-35 strictly limited to landscapes, architecture and group shots. Obviously, if you shoot people upfront at the wider end, you would have a different kind of a portrait, but it still is a portrait ^_^

Here are some random shots of people taken by other people (stolen from google) with 16-35:

Did you check the body used on them ? On some of them, the fov looks a bit narrow for the reported lengths. I'm wondering if a few of these were taken on APS-C

Those were all 5DMk II, but some of them were indeed cropped afterwards;

what kind of sd card would be optimal for shooting video and continous shooting?

how much mbps should it have and may be note some particular ones;

would SanDisk 64GB Extreme SDXC UHS-I Memory Card, 45MBps Read/Write Speeds be enough, or should I go for the 95MBps version?

The older guy's acting (I actually can imagine him playing a part in a "commercial" motion picture, which is good) is a couple levels over the second guy, which makes it a little uncomfortable for me to look at. Hopefully in your feature (as I understood the older guy is Vincent) has a lot more screen time than the younger one.

And not even the fact that he is supposed to be a rookie helps. His lines are too simple. Since he doesn't talk much, may be it would be better if this scene was a monologue, and the other guy could concentrate more on the facial expressions instead.

Other than that, this is very well done under the circumstances that you described.
