Lenses / Re: UWA for a lady - crop user, EOS 700D
« on: June 02, 2014, 05:02:50 AM »
Just wanting to understand your post a bit more, to help out with your question.

You wrote that you’ve been looking at:
- EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM
- Tokina 11-16 (I don't really get all the different versions...)
- Sigma 10-20 4,5-5,6
- Canon 10-22

- but that you got the old sigma 4,5-5,6 and am not too happy with it....

Hope this is helpful.  :)

Paul

Gents,
thanks alot for all the Input - i am sorry if I didn't express myself clear enough:

I do own the Sigma 4,5-5,6 but am not looking for an UWA myself. It's for a friend of mine!!

I am not tooo happy with the Sigma because I feel like it's producing dull colours compared to the Canon 10-22 and the AF is a mess. Sharpness at f8 is ok for a crop camera.

I guess I'm going to tell her to please wait for the new STM lens so we can at least test it in a store.
The only thing bothering me is that the new one does not have a distance scale to focus manually but I doubt she will need that feature anytime soon...

If someone is reeeeally bored I would love to see a few comparison pictures of a good copy of both, the canon 10-22 and the sigma 4,5 and maybe the newer 3,5...

I was out yesterday morning to snap some pictures with snow but it's almost gone :(

This winter was incredibly warm and I'm still hoping it might finally get colder in March.

Third Party Manufacturers / Sigma announces dp Quattro
« on: February 11, 2014, 05:10:24 AM »
From sigmaphoto.com:

Reinvention of camera, reinvention of dp

SIGMA dp Quattro

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new generation of high image quality compact cameras “SIGMA dp” that incorporates a newly developed Foveon X3 direct image sensor (generation name: “Quattro”).

Unique and without peer among image sensors, the Foveon direct image sensor is similar to traditional color film in that its multiple layers capture all of the information that visible light transmits. Along with Sigma’s proprietary image processing technology, this sensor produces incredible resolution, precise gradation, gorgeous color, breathtaking realism with a 3D feel. In other words, full-bodied image quality.

For the new dp series, we rethought and redesigned every aspect of the camera, including the sensor, engine, lens, and body. While retaining its famous textural expression, which seems to give form to the air itself, the updated Foveon direct image sensor produces images that are more colorful, rich, deep, and faithful than ever before.

To a radical degree, the new-generation dp series embodies Sigma’s philosophy of creating cameras that produce works of art. Featuring the highest level of fundamental performance, this series unites artistic expression and daily experience as no other cameras can.

Sorry to see LR take a cloud model.

Where does it say that???

99 is just the beginning.  Wait until you need that sharpening module only offered as an in-app add-on.

Oh, I get it now.  You're just making stuff up.

Adobe should offer hats as an in-app purchase.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Advice on getting a landscape setup!
« on: December 17, 2013, 05:38:36 AM »
Hey there,

I was just wondering, how i could improve my landscape stuff and the "move to fullframe" is buggin me for quite some time.

I currently enjoy shooting with a 7D and a t2i with magic lantern and a sigma 10-20mm lens but i am missing a bit of detail and sharpness in my landscape stuff.

So what would you do if you are on a tight budget (I do not earn money from the pics) but want to advance.

I thought about getting a 6D + a Samyang 24mm TS or the 17-40mm ....but that would mean that i have to sell another body and some lenses...

Or would the move to a Canon 10-22mm be a serious improvement??

Great moments - especially with getting to know the story behind!

One of my luckiest shots is this quite unspectacular shot of a croc.

I was on a boat, trying to get some good kingfisher pics in the mangroves of costa rica and suddenly there were crocodiles instead of birds. Everywhere.

We were approaching a small island and the guide was smiling after i noticed there was this old and huuuuge croc swimming about 1 meter next to our boat and he told me to switch lenses. "You wont need the big one now!"

I did not (want to) believe him and did not switch so yeah... what makes it "lucky" is the distance to the croc. The picture was taken @135mm and is not cropped - so I think you can imagine how close I was.

The guy later on decided to leave the boat and show me how slow crocodiles are in the mud etc. pp....

I hope my pic is worthy of this thread. My english writing skills clearly aren't.

Nice shots!! Shame I could not go - I've been to Airpower this year in Zeltweg and such airshows are AMAZING.

Especially the Axalp with the surrounding scenery.

Amazing shots!!! Thanks for showing!

Sidenote: could a mod remove the insane quote one post above mine, please?

I have this as my background on my work computer since it represents several things to me.
