Photography Technique / Re: Photography fail moments !!!
« on: February 07, 2014, 04:47:33 PM »
Oh where to begin...
I have done the "potrait" video, just once though!

I have brought the camera to my eye and realized the lens-cap was on, removed the cap and had the shot move/run away/fly away

The 10 second timer has pissed me off more than once with all it's beeping and bologna, and not responding to any button smashing! I have done that one enough times now that I quickly turn the camera off/on and disable it.

Want to snap a quick shot of something in dim lighting, pop-up flash or external enabled, but I am in AV with iso at 100...

Installing ML on my 60D and having it freeze during install so I removed the battery and reinstalled, as ML suggests removing battery to prevent overheating, and then my 60D wouldnt boot at all no matter what.... My heart SANK..... I read the FAQ's and then.... shut my battery door...... hahaha

I thought my sandisk 8GB class 10 went south when it started performing slowly, was doing the same thing during high ISO video mostly. I did a full format (not quick) on my pc and it was fast again. The file system used in SD cards is odd and takes more time to overwrite old data, than to write to a fully cleared card, or something of that sort.

It was pretty dark and I was shooting handheld, but I like the waterfall itself.

ISO 800, .8s, F/5, 17mm

Magic Lantern will have 14 stops of DR on it in no time :-P You will find most people like the color rendition of the 6D more than the Nikon, and the High ISO does very well on the canon. Menu systems will make more sence (in my opionion)

I am considering a 6D soon(ish, stupid money) But when I shoot a wedding I am damn near terrified of my 60D having an SD card S___ the bed. And I would have the same fear using the 6D with it's single card slot.

I use auto a decent amount, and set the limit on a regular basis, but never with flash work, as it "auto" sets to 400. But I also only run a 60D

Would you mind posting a non-crop, with her face and stuff removed/blurred for a better understanding? that would help a lot!

I use a 25mm Kenko tube on my 50 1.8 and it gets great results. The problem with extension tubes is while they work great to get a smaller minimum focal distance, they limit the total focus range A LOT.

my 50mm 1.8 only has a total of about 3" focus travel with the 25mm tube on.   On my 17-70 the subject was touching the filter and still not quite close enough to focus. On my 70-300 the min focus distance was about 3 feet, and the max was around 5 feet, that was pretty much useless! But on my 50mm I LOVE it.

Nice work!   good stuff. Did you have to shoot through a fence or sticks on the tiger and bear? looks like a hazy section on each from doing so, I know how annoying that is! keep up the good work

Yongnuo are pretty well praised, I have a Sigma with HSS, and it works great (other than the firmware being glitchy)  I can shoot @ f 1.8 in the snow and still use fill-flash, although the 61 meter range is cut about in half.

skip the tamron. F#$%ng photozone reveiw is BS. the tamron sucks. the AF is kinda nice and quiet and all, but does hunt sometimes, and the colors are very flat. My father-in-law can take a better shot of a distant subject(sharper) with his 70-200 2.8 ii on his 30D(cropped) than my 70-300 on my 60D. I sent it to tamron to be fixed, and they "adjusted" it and it is now a smidge better but nothing exciting. Go canon or save money and get the sigma 70-300, i tryed one in a local store and it was better than my tamron.

Technical Support / Re: Help needes: EOS 7D - noisy pictures

Someone here must be new, arguing with Neuro Bahaha. Everything I have read agrees with Neuro.

as far as the original topic here, when you import a raw into lightroom it does not apply the standard "canon" noise reduction, but a much lower amount of NR. RAW images look like crap in lightroom untill some NR is applied.

Neuro, I have a Question:
I have noticed the Jpeg 7D images are much noisier than my 60D images, But I assume that is because of more modern NR being applied with the 60D, and the raw files should be identical in quality, being the same sensor, am I right?

Lenses / Re: Nifty 50 or Shorty 40?

I would go with the 50 f1/4 or even 1.8 over the 40mm in my opinion. alot of my favorite shots have been on my 50mm@1.8, and a very high percentage of my favorite shots out of my 17-70 are at 31mm and 34mm (very colse to 50mm on a full frame). the 50 1/8 @f2.8-5.6 is VERY sharp. and I have never had any issues with it focusing badly on my 60D. The 50 1.8 actually focuses well in low light too. I use an extension tube with it for a very sharp macro lens
