EOS Bodies / Re: 6D or 5D Mk II
« on: September 17, 2012, 09:47:28 PM »
I have a 5Dii and would be interested in 6D simply for the high ISO performance. I've never really had an issue with the AF of the 5Dii as i manual focus when the going gets tough and from what I've read you can also change the focus screen in the 6D which (correct me if i'm wrong) you can't do with the 5Diii.
There wasn't really enough difference between the 5d ii and the 5diii to justify the price difference but on the other hand the cheaper 6D has the higher ISO performance i so desperately crave + its in a smaller lighter body. IMHO i think it looks like a very nice performer.

So many new and exciting cameras announced this week and so little time/ money to shoot them all..

I'm actually really excited about this camera. If the auto-focus is fast and accurate and the manual controls are snappy (unlike most P&S) I can see myself getting one of these.
I'm not at all afraid of having a 35mm fixed lens stuck on the camera as my 5dii and Leica M6 pretty much have that focal length attached at all times.
This could well be the camera that goes EVERYWHERE with me...

My EOS 3 and Shorty-forty was a great little street setup but I still found it to be a little big. I recently got my hands on a Leica M6, its great because its so small and nobody looks at you twice when shooting with it.

Oh and before I started shooting film (again) I use to shoot street with my 5dii and either 35mmL or Sig 50mm.

Lighting / Re: When do you use spot metering?
« on: July 22, 2012, 10:24:17 PM »
I use spot metering and AE lock when shooting directly into the sun or anytime i want a subject to be correctly exposed and don't care about the rest of the scene.

When I shoot gigs, i use spot meter to meter the performer, then take those values and put the camera in manual mode and shoot away without having to worry about spinning stage lights throwing out my exposure. Works most of the time...

I love this lens. It currently lives on my EOS 3 and makes for a great little street shooter.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Let's see your film shots
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:23:05 PM »
Hi all,

So the other day i picked up a second hand EOS 3 for a steal just so i could play around with shooting some 35mm film again. I love the aesthetic of film and the discipline that comes with shooting with it. The cost of processing and scanning 35mm in Australia is a little steep so every time i press the shutter it costs me 1.16AUD.

Here are a couple of test shots from a roll of Kodak Gold 200 that expired in 2007. If you've been recently shooting some 35mm lets see some of your shots.

cheers
Scott

I'm excited, I'll be getting one for my 5dii. I hope it has a nice short MFD.  :)

A 1D4 with a 70-200 stuck down your pants makes a great talking point .......  ;D ;D ;D

I've tried that but strangely i found it difficult to get into bars at night... and don't get me started on trying to go to the bathroom.  ;D

This was the most stressful camera i've ever bought. There are sooooo many options when it comes to point and shoots. In the end i picked up a S100. I figure if i can't fit a camera in my pocket i should be using my 5dii.

Patiently waiting for the battery to charge so i can have a play with it.

Third Party Manufacturers / Point & Shoot?...

Hi gang,

I've spent the day researching point and shoot cameras as i want something a little smaller than my 5dii to carry around for social occasions (nights out on the town etc).

There are so many options out there it makes my head hurt but i've been looking at the following:
Fuji x100
Ricoh GR digital IV
Canon S100

What do you guys use when you can't be bothered lugging around your DSLR's?

cheers,
Scott

This is still one of my favourite photos i've ever taken. It was shot with my first dslr a Canon 450d with a Sigma 10-20mm.

Looking back through my old photos, they seem to be better than the photos i'm taking now with my 5dii. Something's not right here...
