It's not a gimmick for me.  Picture quality is superb and my 5D2 is very compact and light.  Also when shooting in the street it is much less intrusive.

EOS Bodies / Re: 7D Firmware officially announced

Would have been nice if they added some of those functions on the way more expensive Canon EOS 5D Mark II.

True, but that's why everybody recons that the 7d2 is not around the corner: Canon does not seem to be in the habit of adding features to cameras that already or nearly have a successor. So the firmware upgrade for the 5d2 is the 5d3.

Ooo.  Download link please    :)

I got mine last Saturday and so far very impressed.  Easy to pop my camera in my day job bag with no worrying bumps that could be knocked.  Posted these on another site for people who were interested.  First one is at f11.  The next set were at f2.8 to test for vignetting.  I really think Canon have got a winner here that could make the name 'shorty forty' almost as annoying as 'nifty fifty' in a few years time    :)
No pp, just straight jpegs from RAW.

Been keeping an eye out for this for a while and has stopped me spending on the Voightlander.

Looks ideal for quickly packing in a bag. Of course I would 'probably' put a different lens on for when I am specifically going out to take photos. However, there are so many of my business trips when I want to have my camera with me.  I tried having a small point and shoot for a few years but was never happy with the results and I really just want the one camera (that I can love and talk to at night....er that is a joke but you know what I mean). If the optics are ok it would be great to always have my camera in my bag in the smallest possible size.

f2.8 doesn't worry me. I hardly shoot below this unless I want a particular effect, just crank the ISO up, and then I would have a different lens anyway. Can't wait.

Lenses / Re: EF 40 f/2.8 Pancake so whats the deal

I quite like platypus, and the biggest mistake us mammals ever did was getting rid of the external egg!

Seriously though.  I quite like the idea of this as long as the image quality is good.  I have been looking at the Voightlander in this range but £600 is a lot of cash.  The rumour mill was suggesting under£200.  If so would make a great easy to throw in the bag or casual walk around option.  Would turn my 5D into a much less obtrusive street camera.

Can't wait to see if it does come to fruition.
