Lenses / Re: Canon EF 11-24 f/2.8L Coming [CR1]

I kinda lost my burning for an UW with the 16-35 f/4L. It's just so darn good for the price.

That good? Worth upgrading from 1740?

Every time I see deals on this lens I remember I sold my friend's 5 year old copy a year ago for $950 on eBay...

Lenses / Does the Sigma USB dock work with multiple cameras?
« on: June 13, 2014, 02:45:10 PM »
I got my 50Art and it works really well on the 5D3 but not so much for the 60D. Focus is off and it seems consistent. The camera store doesn't have any in stock and may not be able to get me another copy before my exchange/return time is up.

So as another alternative I could buy their USB dock and preset a focus preference on the lens..

And my question is:

Does the software allow me to set the lens differently for different camera bodies? Leave everything as-is for the 5D3 and change it to whatever it needs to be when it's mounted on the 60D?

Looks like Sigma will have to deal with AF reports first and check this before release of the 85mm f/1.4 Art. This is not good advertisement for Sigma and their products.
My 50mm f/1.4 Art does not have AF problems. I am extremely happy with my copy.

Did you order yours on Day 1?

I pre-ordered mine about half a month ago and B&H sent me an email a few days ago basically saying "We don't have anything to ship to you but we haven't forgotten that we've charged you.."

The 1635 is lower than expected! Makes me want one to replace my 1740..

Perhaps Canon listened to their customers....

That's an improvement similar to Sigma introducing the Art series...

At their current pricing scheme this should be around $3000......

Would the price come down a bit if I wait for a few months?

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art Gets Reviewed

A salesman at Henry's in Toronto said that the Sigma rep who was there a few days earlier said it would be around/less than 790.

Maybe that's why they haven't introduced much exciting stuff in the past few years...

If it's under 800 I'll probably order on introduction..

If above I'll resist until I give up...

At least it's ready in a few days...

Lenses / Re: Sigma 50mm F/1.4 Art listed in Belarus for $790

I know Sigma is a 2nd tier brand... but if the lens is really that good, they would be giving it away at $800.  Especially when their main competition is the Otus which is $4000.  Is Ford really going charge $10,000 for a mid-size sedan because Honda is selling their's at $20,000?

Not to mention, the 50 art would come in at a lower price than the 35 art?

Makes sense but how great would it be if it's really 790... I'll order one the day it comes out..

Good news.. looks like their 10mm/2.8?

Sigma and Samyang.. sooner or later a Chinese brand might join..

A future of high/decent quality & cheap 3rd party lenses..

I get a good amount of business just from Instagramming..

I'm really looking forward to this.  Sigma art lens have a really good reputation.  If this is a sharp as the hype Sigma is getting my money. The Canon 1.4 was so fragile (better build quality my ass) I had two of them go bad (broken auto focus) so I just stuck with the the old series 1 1.8.  Hoping for good things and a reasonable price but I will settle for super sharp

I'm on my 2nd 50/1.4.. first one's auto focus broke twice, the second one's shutter diaphragm is about to be stuck whenever stopped down (less than 2 years old) so I'm using it at 1.4 only and need a 1.8 for smaller aperture....

All I need is something reliable..
