I've LOVED this thread because I'm dying to get more into this arena.  I've been directly asked to shoot band performances before, but never done the whole Press Pass thing. 

So, for all of you guys who do lots of this:  What should I do to start obtaining these Press Passes?  Do I need to work for/represent a publication directly? 

There are several concerts I'd love to shoot which are coming up.  I'd really like to make this happen.

Start with a 50mm F1.4 (Sigma/Canon or a 40mm pancake though I like the F1.4 more than F2..  You can acquire later whatever you think you need.  You can also sell it if you find out later that you don't need it.  A 24-105 F4 L is also a good start.  You can sell it later if you don't need it also without losing much (maybe gain a little bit more if you purchase it as a kit lens).

The OP has already stated they have a 50mm 1.8 and 40mm pancake... I'm sure expect is supposed to be except as it would make more sense anyway, hehe.

You can't possibly compare the 50 1.8 and the 50 1.4, can you?  The 1.4 is a much better lens.  Granted, the OP already has the 40mm, but the statement was about the 1.4.  I used to use the 1.8 until I tried a 1.4 for about 5 minutes.  I immediately sold my 1.8 (and made 100% of my $ back) and grabbed a 1.4.  Best lens for the money out there, IMHO.

Best all-around lens for walkaround use - probably the 24-105.

I don't have a 6D, but it performs awesome on my 5DM3 as a walkaround.

What kind of stuff are you planning on shooting?  Landscapes?  Sports?  Weddings?  etc?  That makes a huge difference.

I have the following lenses which I use for Weddings and events, and I can't imagine doing what I do without any of them:

EF 24-105
EF 70-200 2.8 IS II USM (freakin' amazing lens)
EF 50 1.4
Sigma 12-24

I didn't have any problems with Focus point selection but I did notice one new quirk...

When you power up the camera while using (some) 3rd party LP-E6 batteries you'll get a a warning message telling you "Communication with Canon LP-E6 battery is irregular" - "Continue to use this battery?" - "Cancel - OK"

Cancelling shuts down the camera without turning off the power switch while the "OK" option lets you continue.

I'm presuming nothing's really wrong, just Canon's way of nagging you into using their batteries only.
 

I guess NIKON's been doing this for years.  It's actually pretty funny because the camera powers up and a notice says "This battery will not power this camera" or something like that.

I lived in Russia for a few years.  Loved it!  I wasn't into Photography yet, but I'm doing lots of weddings now here in the US.

What city do you live in?

Not much to comment on- I generally like them, especially keeping in mind who these pictures are really intended for (buyers looking for a house.)

For me, the outdoor colors are too vivid and saturated. I like the indoor ones- but the exterior shots I just find a little overwhelming. Particularly the blues, but they don't feel "cool", like the white balance is off. I think there's just a lot of blue, and the overall saturation makes it feel overwhelming. I'd dial that back a bit. Otherwise, the composition looks interesting, helps to visualize the house, etc.

I agree about the blues on the exterior - they could be slightly dialed back.  However, GREAT job with angles!  Composition is nice.

I have a pimped-out Asus laptop for most of my editing needs and on both my laptop and desktop's monitor I use Spyder4Pro.  Super easy, and the results are dang good.  I've never had a problem.  Ever.  Prints are perfect from any source, and my clients are happy.

I've got the 24-105L and love it.  I also have the 50/1.4 (along with a bunch of other oddball 50-58mm vintage glass) and the new Sigma 35/1.4 Art lens.  Here's my advice: If you want a good prime and you have to dump one lens to add another, get the Sigma 35/1.4 and dump your 50/1.4.  The 35 is a bit wider, but at f1.4 there is no comparison to the 50.  Sharp sharp sharp, corner to corner.  I have to stop down to about 5.6 on my 50 before it gets good, and then you're into the same territory as the 24-105.  The 35 has great sharpness and good bokeh, much better than the 50/1.4.

Thanks for the comparison of the 50/1.4 with the Sigma 35/1.4!  I'd never even thought about that because I love having that 1.4 in a prime, but I always wish it was just a little wider.  If it's really that sharp, well, I might take your advice and sell my canon 50/1.4 for the sigma 35/1.4.

I'm just frustated and i want canon to know!
I mean i love the 60d, but no real video af. I want a seald dslr
with a big viewfinder -and a good video af. Maybe even a gps since i do make most of my photos outdoor on many different locations...again, frustrated.

It sounds more like you should be looking at the 7D rather than the 70D!  I'm a 5DM3 guy, but I'd rather have a 7D for video over a (still projected/rumored/ficticious) 70D any day!

I was on the fence about which one to keep until I saw that you said you also do portraits.  If that's the case, the 24mm on either lens is equal for wide views for your property and landscape photography, but only one lens has the f2.8 which is magic for portraits.

As much as I love the 24-105, I'd have to say that if you can only have 1, I'd keep the 24-70 f2.8.  Then, start saving up for other great lenses like the 70-200 f2.8 IS II USM, the 50mm f1.4 or 1.2, the 85mm prime, maybe a UWA...

That 24-70 (as well as the 70-200) on the 5DM3 are magical.  The 20-105 is solid with more reach, just less portrait quality.
