EOS Bodies / Re: 6d vs. 5d mkiii for sports photography
« on: January 07, 2013, 07:21:34 PM »
I tried the 6d (really wanted it...until I tried it).  I went outside on a sunny day and it struggled with moving
traffic.  Many shots were not sharp as the focus is not fast enough.  I had it on centre point only and servo.
It looks like a fantastic camera as long as you do not expect much for sport.

I have the 7d now and shoot sports and events mostly.
The 6d in no way can substitute for the 7d or handle sports anywhere near the 5d3 or 7d and it clearly is
not intended for that.  Bite the bullet and get the 5d3.

Here is a shooter's experiences.  He posted 4 nice basketball shots and the rest were out of focus.

Lenses / Re: 300 f4 w/1.4x or 400 f5.6

Hobbs, I have just recently purchased the sigma 100-300f4 to go with my 40d.
It is great and I have shot a lot of soccer (outdoors) with it.
I used to use my canon 70-200 (both of these non-IS but not needed as I shoot 1/800 or more).
If you want samples let me know.
I have even done the sigma 1.4 and while it degrades if needed for the reach it is nice.
How I am obviously not a pro but I rarely use my canon anymore so to leave a L lens at home says something.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon releases are getting expensive!

Agreed, I feel very poor.

And yes, I realize these are aimed at pros, that is my point, 4 consecutive pro cameras and nothing for the 99.X of us poor souls.

EOS Bodies / Canon releases are getting expensive!

Let's see if I have this correct.
The last 4 canon announcements go like this:

1.  1Dc   -  $10,000 or $15,000 not sure which
2.  C500 - $35,000
3.  5D3   -   $3,500
4.  1Dx   -   $6,900

Sure glad to see them aiming their efforts at the 0.01% who can afford this stuff.
They have not announced anything for under $2000 for some time.
I am hoping this means they have a wonderful new 7d or 70d that will be worth switching to.

EOS Bodies / Huge gap in Canon pro-sumer products
« on: March 30, 2012, 01:28:30 PM »
There is the aging 7d (summer 2009) at $1500 or less
Now there is the 5d3 at aobut $3500
and the 1dx at $7000 give or take

From what I have seen and read here there is nothing planned for a new 7d.
This means Canon has 2 new cameras that based on the high price will appeal to a
tiny percentage of the market.  Don't get me wrong, they look amazing and will certainly
please those that have $4000+ to get into this high-end market.

With the economy not so rosy in the past years how can they ignore the sub $2000 market
where the masses are?  I know they surely sell a lot of sub $400-600 rebels yet I cannot undestand
leaving out all of us advanced amateurs.

Yes, I could get a 7d but after having a 40d for almost 4yrs getting a camera as old as the 7d would
not be something I would do (and they are still expensive in my part of the world).
I shoot a lot of indoor sports and the 40d is not the best for this.  I would like the 1d4 but it is still
way over my budget (I do not get paid).  I am sure that a new 7d would have better IQ, better low light performance and perhaps even faster AF.

Just wanting to rant at Canon.
