I also moved from the 7d to the 5d mkiii and couldn't be happier.  I kept the 7d at first to have two bodies.  But I found myself always just wanting to shot with the 5d mkiii.  I ended up selling my 7d and bought the 100mm F2.8L Macro.

Got into Photography as a hobby to keep my mind off of work.  Most of the people I knew had Canon so I figured they could help me learn the camera and I could borow lens to get started.....Fast forward 5 years and the addiction led me from a T2i to a 7d to now a 5dmkiii and some awesome lens.  I have a friend that shoots Nikon now and I don't like the ergonomics at all.  Maybe its because I'm used to Canon now.  Also, I shot some sports and wildlife and if you have ever used a tele with a Canon and a Nikon...The canon drives the focus so much faster.  Try a close to infinity test and you'll see what I'm talking about. 

I was upset at first when the new round of Nikons seemed to knock Canon back a few steps but I've seen the results and I still prefer Canon over Nikon.  I don't need the extra mp (I understand some do) and I like Canons AF and IQ about ISO 100 better.  I must average ISO 1600 in my shots so that is very important.

Yea I don't think this camera is going to happen.  If it does...someone in Marketing should get fired for giving out an upgrade to the 7D...

I'm slowly moving away from my zooms and towards primes.  I find I usually use a zoom at either the wide end or the long end so why not just get a prime and get a sharper image...the 85 1.2L is calling my name.

I usually shoot manual but I still use still because I'm so use to adjusting to proper exposure.  This gives me the chance outdoors to expose to the grass and then as I look around the sky doesn't afect me as much.  I know I could just not change but I'm just used to movign things around to get the exposure I can forget.

40mm F2.8?  I've done some shots in museums and even at 2.8 I sometimes need 3200ISO to get a good shot.   There is a canon 28mm F1.8 that might do you well in your price range.
