Reviews / Re: My Mini-Review of the 85mm 1.2L II.
« on: October 09, 2012, 10:34:24 PM »
Nice review!

Now how about a mini-review on the 135L and the 50L  ;D

Also, can you tell me how far you need to be to shoot a person from their head to their waist kinda shot with the 135L on a fullframe camera?
I've got the ultrawide side of my kit covered but my telephoto ends at 105mm, so I thought that the 135L would be a great addition as my first bokehlicious prime as well as getting my telephoto side covered

I know these reviews weren't supposed to be "super technical" and more practical. But including a coffee mug for a comparison of lenses in the lineup? Not my cup of tea ::)

Please, keep them a bit more technical!

I'm pretty sure the lens mug was there to give the viewers an idea on how it the reviewed lens looks like against the 70-200 f4L (which is the lens mug).

It's at the top bar on the main page Canon-F1  :)

I'd really like to see a review for the 135L, 85L II, and the 50L. I love how these reviews go, Thanks CR guy  ;D

How about just cropping them to 16:9?

85 f1.2l II
200 f2L
24 f1.4L II

The 85 is probably the first one I will get someday (II or the original or the FD)  ;D

I'm working on the EdTraveller for the 85 1.2 L and 50 1.2 L and 85 1.2 Aspherical lenses this weekend actually.  They may launch sooner than later.
YES! Sounds great ;D Thanks Ed

Hey Ed, just wondering how the progress on the FD 85mm f1.2l kit is?
I've been eyeing this FD50L and FD85L deal here locally that no one here is interested in, really lucky ahaha ;D

Nice! A fast 35mm alternative that (has AF and) doesn't break the bank  ;D
Sigma may probably change their 50mm and 85mm to look like these new lenses, they did change the paint on the 50 back when the 85 came out.
I'll probably wait for those if I go the 85 route than the 135L 8)

All I gotta say is "ISO performance baby  8)"
+1   I shot at a Lounge last night and all of my non-flash shots were shot at around 10000-12800 ISO! The guests loved my B&W shots of them, all made with (barely) available light.  8)

Landscapes are another thing though.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 6D Announcement Soon? [CR1]

Since it's going to have a lower build quality than the 5D Mark III, I can imagine it as a FF xxD with a magnesium alloy body just like the old 50D. Maybe just a bit more bulked up kinda like how the 5D3 is a bit bigger than the 7D. I would say a FF 7D body but then that would be pretty much the 5D3  ;D

I feel that I have certainly improved. When I got a 24-105L to replace the kit lens on my 550D I started seeing improvements in my photography with the extra reach and constant f-stop. Was it proportional to the cost? I'm not entirely sure but my shots before the L upgrade all looked like they were shot with a point-and-shoot.
With that being said I did get start getting lessons on the basics at almost the same time (Photo student) but I do think that it's the confidence that came with getting new gear that pushed me to shoot more.
I'm sure a lot of people might berate me for that but I do believe that there is a bit of truth in it. Now that I have moved to a 5D, I can visibly see that my photos and style of shooting have improved. When I started with the 550D I shot with the greenbox  :-[ for a month or two, with the 5D the first thing I did was to set all the buttons to my preferred functions knowing very well what I wanted. I still have a lot to learn though.  ;D
Oh and the 61 autofocus point is amazing  8)

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: What to tell a newbie?
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:06:07 AM »
Interestingly, nobody ever wants to hear "get a high-end compact / bridge " - £300 is far too much for something with a built-in lens, apparently, but they're happy to drop double that on kit that probably won't serve them as well!

I know what you mean. I know a few people who bought a 60D when it came out and only kept shooting on full auto, 99% live view, and no plans for buying lenses. I don't want to judge newbies since I was a newbie too but, for the money, a high-end compact or mirrorless that has tons of automatic presets would have worked better for them.

When people ask me what they should get, the first thing I ask is if they actually plan on using the cameras viewfinder and if they would actually use different lenses and going manual (in the future of course). If it's a no for the majority of the questions then a point-and-shoot/mirrorless would do them good.

These days it seems like DSLRs are becoming more of a toy to people, for showing off that they have a bigger camera than others.

Sorry if this turned into kind of a rant  ;D

EOS Bodies / Re: 1Dx desire (A cautious approach)
« on: August 11, 2012, 11:05:35 AM »
Having been an early 5Diii adopter, I will now sit back and wait, NO I don't need a 1Dx .... But I really want one...

I know that feel bro  ;) Except I was going between a 1Ds III and the 5D Mark III. I liked 1Ds III for the 1D for factor and ruggedness, I take care of my gear but I don't baby them, but thought that portability would be a problem.

The security guards around here in The Philippines already won't get off my back with my old gear  >:( (550D, gripless+25-105L), if I had a 1D in my hand I can forget about bringing it around for casual shooting.

Lenses / Re: Lens creep. Is this normal?
« on: August 10, 2012, 01:02:13 AM »
No creep on mine either. I have been using it as my main lens on a 550D and now a 5D3 for almost a year now, the zoom ring is still a bit stiff despite the constant use, must be lucky I guess..
