Software & Accessories / Re: carry on limitation for international travel
« on: December 22, 2013, 08:57:18 PM »
Hi. I've just spent 6 weeks in Europe, USA & England travelling from Perth Australia. I had in my Canon backpack a 5dIII, 16-35L II, 24-105L, 70-300L, charger, 11" HP laptop and spare battery and cards. I had the 16-36 on my camera and took 85% of my photos with it and the rest with the 70-300. I think the small backpack size helped me not have a problem anywhere. I would suggest you consider if you really need the tripod and flash, the 5dIII really does take excellent shots in very low light without a flash. I didn't miss my flash at all and took over 3,300 photos in all sorts of lighting conditions. I also found I could have just carried the 16-35 & 70-300.

Lenses / Yet another call for travel lens advice
« on: August 13, 2013, 10:14:40 PM »
Hi all
I have read good comments about the Tamron 24-70 and am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the Tamron 28-300.

I have a 5D_III, Canon 16-35 II, 24-105 and 70-200L 2.8 IS.

I am leaving on a 6 week holiday in Nov from Perth Australia to Venice, then cruising the Med to Turkey & Miami via St Thomas and a few islands then 2 weeks in England.

I am interested in Landscape, old buildings inside & out anything else I see including hopefully the Duxford aircraft museum.

I am worried about the weight of the 24-105 and esp 70-200 so was thinking of just taking the 16-35 for wide angle and buying the Tamron 28-300 as a travelling lens. I have tried the Canon 28-300, great lens but heavy like the 70-200.

I would appreciate your thoughts and advice.

Michael

I've been getting the same stuff on CR for the last two days, on again/off again.

I think the Squirrels have got into the Coding system, they should be Banned.

Them darned Squirrels  ;D

I believe these are unfair accusations toward the squirrel community, and though not a lawyer, i would be willing to represent them if needed. You have been forwarned! >:(

Oye, that is totally unfair ... you blamd the squirrels that they "got into the Coding system" and they "should be Banned" etc ... but now you have turned into a hostile witness, your testimony is found null and void ... therefore you are banned for life from representing the squirrel community ... I think the only person fully qualified to represent them is paulWalnut as he never blamed the squirrels, in fact he seems to promote them quite heavily ;D

Yes! Two-faced hypocrite!  Should be banned AND ostrecized (or is it ostreSized, British spelling ?) from the squirrel community. No more nuts for  anyone but paulWalnut and the squirrels >:(

I am now prepared to represent the ostriches and protest MY Lord on their behalf about being spoken about in the same topic as those small "multicoloured squirrels". They can't even make up their minds what colour they are whereas we ostriches are only in 1 continent and are all of the same basic colour, besides which we don't have a problem with "nuts" seeing as we don't have any.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: CF Cards - Where do you buy yours?
« on: March 09, 2013, 10:17:59 AM »
I live in Perth West Australia. Bought 5D III May last year in Perth. Lexar 32gb 1000 cards were over $250 each here. I bought 2 from B&H on a sale acfter reading about it on this site. Paid for airfreight and had delivered within a week. Great service. I was able to track consignment all the way. Total $320. Definitely the say to go. At the time the B&H deal was $25 cheaper after adding in freight than Adorama and the freihht was quicker.

Technical Support / Photographing paintings for a Catalogue help please
« on: February 20, 2013, 02:33:01 AM »
Hi All.
I have been asked by a friend to photograph her paintings for putting into a photo gallery catalogue.

The specs are:
Tiff
Colour space : RGB
Colour ratio : 24 bit

Either height or width of an image should be more than 2000 pixels.
Image must have a valid ICC profile E.G. sRgb /Adobe Rgb (1998)
Image must have a valid RGB colour space and must be 8/24 bit colour ratio.

Could someone translate this for me into ordinary language please?

I have a 5D III with24-105 L and 70-200 IS 2.8 II lenses ands 430 EXII Flash.

Do I shoot in RAW and then process in something, I'm not aware of the camera producing Tiff's directly?

I have LR 4 and PE11. Can these packages be used to produce the required photos, and what settings would you use for shooting, Flash?

Help please? :-[

Lenses / Advice for shooting House Interior with 5DIII
« on: February 01, 2013, 04:06:46 AM »
I have been asked by my son to shoot the interior of a house he has renovated. The photos will go on a web site and in a brochure book he has printed and sends to prospective clients.

I have a 5D III with a 24-105 & 70-200 2.8 II and a 430EX.

On my last shoot I was having difficulty fitting the rooms in the shot so I may have to hire something wider this time.
Any advice appreciated.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Adobe RGB or sRGB please?

Thank you all for your feedback. I think I shall continue to shoot raw and Ljpeg but with adobeRGB set to take advantage of the larger colour range if I want to show a photo immediately to friends on my laptop.

Thanks for the responses. I am using a computer running Win Pro 7 and a Canon Ink jet or Fuji colour laser printer. So if I understand the advice it won't matter for my local printing but will probably matter to a lab. All my photos to date have been sRGB. Would I notice a big difference changing to Adobe RGB. If so would it be just when printing or on my computer monitor as well.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Adobe RGB or sRGB please?
« on: September 24, 2012, 08:50:40 PM »
I am just starting to get my head around my 5D III after a 60D. I have been to a few photography courses and have LR4.1 and PSE10. I shoot raw & L JPEG. My confusion is that some recommend sRGB however other people recommend Adobe RGB. The 5D III manual recommends sRGB but the LR books are divided. I only shoot for my own enjoyment at this stage but may join a club later when I get a little better. Any thoughts very much appreciated.

Lenses / Re: Travelling zoom
« on: August 14, 2012, 10:03:44 PM »
Hi Michael.
Consider the new Tamron 18-270 lens. I had one on my first Canon a 60D and it was excellent.  I did a 5week holiday and cruise around USA and Panama. Camera was not too heavy to carry all day and the lens is compact when not extended.  Because the lens covered all ranges I was never missing shots while changing lenses. There may be lenses that will give a slightly better image in a particular situation but overall its hard to beat the size price and practicality.

Lenses / Re: Must-have lenses for Canon 5D Mark III
« on: July 25, 2012, 08:01:26 PM »
I was at a Canon day at Barbagello raceway on Saturday and the Canon Rep had a prototype of the 24-70 II lenses to try. Awesome lens. He said the earliest date for the lens was Sept. I had originally ordered the 5d mk3 and EF24-70 II kit from Leederville cameras in Perth but Gage's up in May and bought 24-105 kit and 70-200 IS II in May for my 60th. So glad I didn't wait. Now I have to drop big hints to wife what I'd like for Xmas but not sure if I should get 16-35. II or 24-70II. :) :)
