Lenses / Sigma dock (for 50mm)
« on: Today at 10:12:47 PM »
Alright, so I bought the dock. Now someone tell me what to do!

Stupid question but of course there's no answer anywhere: if the lens is backfocusing (i.e. focusing behind the focus point), do I go + or - ?

Also are all versions from the same year different? If not, is there one way to do it? i.e. I have a 5D3 and a 2014 version, can someone just tell me what to set it to?

what this post failed to mention is there is no other auto-focusing 50mm lens that even comes close to the overall quality of this lens. and the canon 1.4 and 1.2 both have their own focusing issues fyi.

Anyone have any experience with the sigma USB dock for this lens? Worth getting??

Here's a recent image of mine created with this lens and a 5D3:

85 would likely be a lot more useful. 24 is wider than you think. But I think you need a 24-70 in there. I'd grab the 85 1.8 and 24-70 if I were you. 85 1.2 is a jewel but you have other holes you need to fill before spending it all on that IMO.

« on: October 07, 2014, 09:29:03 AM »
Thanks guys. Yeah, if only tilt shifts had AF. But no, it's not too hard to get focus using the screen, with 10 times zoom. Of course it would be easier to just shoot with an AF lens but hey, sometimes you have to make sacrifices to get a specific look, and a tilt-shift portrait just can't be imitated (well).

Rented the 45mm for a wedding a couple weeks ago. It's nice for group/couple shots and landscapes, but yeah I'm thinking it's too wide for my main uses:

Lenses / 45mm vs. 90mm tilt-shift
« on: October 06, 2014, 09:39:53 PM »
So I've finally given up waiting for the new L tilt-shifts and have decided to grab either the current 45mm or 90mm. Right now I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the 90mm because I want it more for portraits, but the 45mm is still calling my name as I see it as a more versatile lens.

Thoughts?

No to mention the Sigma is more than double the price and size.

Not asking if it's an upgrade, asking if it'a worth it and asking which has the better looking bokeh.
