What the heck is a 4K ILC camera?

Mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera. As the article said, a camera that competes against the GH4.

So awesome!

I got my first L lens the same day as you! Bought a refurbished 16-35 f/4L IS for my 6D. In love with the semi distorted ultra wide angle look. So far, so good.

Wow! I appreciate all the responses.

After some research, it seems that the 24-70 f2.8 II is the most versatile option across all photography. But the obvious set back is the insane price point that's completely out of my budget.

May just stick with the 50mm 1.8 for now, until I land a decent job and save up for the lens.

Is the quality in optics noticeably better in the 50 1.4 compared to the 1.8?

Lenses / Buying Advice: What First Lens for a Full Frame?
« on: December 16, 2014, 05:18:14 PM »
I dished out on the Canon 6D, which will be my first full frame body. I'm looking into buying a new lens, since the only lens I have on my Canon 7D is the gorgeous Sigma 18-35 f1.8. Obviously, it's not exactly made for a full frame body, so I'm sure there'd be vignetting. As a first timer in the full frame market, what would be a good versatile lens?

I do multiple kinds of photography: landscape, portrait, concert/music

I should also note that I'm on a very tight budget.

Software & Accessories / Re: Canon 6D Accessories??

If you can, look at someone's Canon 6D with a screen protector on it. Personally, I've yet to see a screen protector that didn't detract significantly from the image quality of the screen

On the 6d, they have a huge impact because the lcd isn't that bright, and the glass/plastic in front takes away brilliance for sure. But it's not as distracting as a big scratch on the lcd or the €200 repair bill to have it replaced...

As I mentioned in my post above, the GGS glass filters have 0 impact on visibility in my experience, used indoors or out. I've used (and removed) lots of plastic protectors from tablets, phones, Palm Pilots (blast from the past) so I know why screen protectors are often despised, but the GGS glass is really on par with or better than the OEM LCD cover. I say cover, because the actual LCD panel is behind the plastic back screen, so if you do scratch the screen on the back it's a simple DIY repair for under $20 with a hair drier and suction cup and wouldn't require a trip to Canon. YouTube videos abound on doing this repair on all models of Canon cameras.

Thanks! I may go with that then.

This is the GGS glass that I found on Amazon. From reading some of the reviews, I'm pretty convinced this will be a good investment.

Software & Accessories / Canon 6D Accessories??

Hi all!

I caved in and bought my first full frame body through the Adorama deal during Cyber Monday week. Will be upgrading from my trusty Canon 7D.

After researching some things about the camera, I ran into some accessories and was wondering if screen protectors were crucial or more of a gimmick. Considering that the LCD screen on the 6D is plastic, I found these glass screen protectors:

Any thoughts?

EOS Bodies / Re: The Next Cinema EOS Camera Will Be..... [CR2]

Perhaps it'll be called the 5DC?

An affordable EOS Cinema camera capable of 4k would be very nice.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Upgrade from 7D to 6D or MK3?
« on: December 02, 2012, 02:43:17 PM »
So I've had my Canon 7D for the past 2 or 3 years, and I've been pretty happy with it for video.

The thing is, I want to upgrade my body to the next level: a full frame body.

Now that the 6D is out, I'm curious if it's worth the $1,000 price difference between the 6D and the 5D Mark 3.

The Mark 3 has some unique features like a headphone jack, 100% view finder coverage, etc.

I'm just not sure. I do have a budget though..

$2700 on a 5D II which without it right now is $2080 for a difference of $620.  So maybe not too crazy at $809.

By the way, the body only option on Amazon is now $1999!

they aren't legit. don't order from them.

you place an order, they call you to verify information prior to shipping. during the call they try to sell you all sorts of things you didn't order, bodies ("the lens you ordered only works with crop bodies"), additional lenses, memory card packages, bags, all sorts of things. it's bothersome. and also kind of hilarious.

but then, they ship nothing to you. weeks pass. you call them up, they come up with an excuse for why it hasn't shipped yet ("UPS dropped the box and every lens broke, we expect a new shipment in 2-3 weeks, in the meantime, why not consider this other lens, if you buy it today i can get you $150 off retail, and since you're buying a lens, why not get the body that goes with it...").

i'm sure eventually they'll ship you something, but it'll be grey market and not covered under warranty. if not worse.

the only thing they are good at is canceling an order. i'll give them that. they were really nice. so they aren't thieves or anything, your credit card info is safe if you've already given it to them, but the best you'll get from them, if you get anything at all, is grey market equipment that is unpackaged and not covered under warranty.

have to say though, before i cancelled an order i placed once, some of the phone calls were truly hilarious. "if you use that lens with that body, the menu will only appear in japanese, you don't want that do you?"

WOW. Now THAT is something...okay.

Thank you all for the responses. I honestly thought the resellerrating website was very suspicious..especially looking at the fact that most, if not all of those reviews are from the same dates, AND the fact that they are mostly 5 stars.

I've tried searching the forum and didn't find anything about this, but I was wondering if was a legit site.

They have the 24-105mm lens for $809 brand new..seems too good to be true.

Any buyers from this website? :o

Wow thanks for the great responses. Never even knew there was a wrench for lens filters. Purchased both of them for my convenience!

I emailed Sigma customer support for the estimate; hoping the cost to not be as much as the lens itself. x(

Lenses / REALLY BAD Lens Scratch
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:26:04 AM »
So being that this is a pretty bad scratch, it actually affects the outcome of my images...

What ways are there to fix this? And approximately how much would it cost just to replace that frontal glass?

Btw all those dust is apparently trapped under my lens filter...and I'm still in the process of trying to screw it off, but it's on waaaay too tight. I don't even remember tightening it up that much.

This is a Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 DC HSM Lens.
