Pricewatch Deals / Re: Anyone received their $2499 5D3 from bigvalueinc?

I think the 1 year warranty is highly overrated. Most problems to the camera don't come until much later after a lot of wear and tear.

There are other reasons besides low light IQ and AF to get the 5D Mark III for landscapes, such as the amazing new screen. It's only slightly larger but it makes a big difference in previewing your shots out in the field because it's also much brighter and has less glare. I used to have to cover the screen with my hand all the time outdoors. Another reason is the improved weather sealing to protect your camera from unexpected conditions.

Sounds good, thanks. I'm going to try them all tonight when I get home.

I see, is it typically done for all the lenses you use or just the ones you are having issues with?

Question about AFMA for two 5D3s. Do I need to do each AFMA separately or can I just use the settings from the first body and copy it to the second?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Anyone buy a new 5D3 on eBay?
« on: September 06, 2012, 01:38:43 PM »
I bought a 5D3 from this seller a month ago for $3088. It was the body inside a kit box without the lens. Everything was fine and I'd buy it again.

Here's the blog post describing the effort it took to get that "snapshot":

I have a simple solution for the OPs problem. Carry two 5D MKIII and tack on a 1.4X converter onto one for the extra reach. You'll get slightly more reach than the APS-H's 1.3X and a better sensor. As far as losing the one stop of light, you'd roughly lose that anyway with the slightly worse ISO performance of an APS-H. That way you'll have consistency between the two bodies and Canon won't have to develop a camera for such a niche market.

Lenses / Re: Prime VS Zooms.
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:52:40 AM »
Not all primes are better than zooms.  For instance, the 24-70L zoom is actually slightly sharper than the, yes, the member of the holy trinity, 35L prime, when stopped down.  I've seen it myself and Bryan Carnathan noticed it as well.  It depends on how high quality the zoom lens is.

I beg to differ:

Even at f/2.0, the 35L is sharper than the zoom at the center. Plus, the distinct look it gives subjects at f/1.4-2.8 is something the zoom can't even come close to in my opinion.

Software & Accessories / MoneyMaker straps

Has anyone used the MoneyMaker straps?

I'm currently shooting with two bodies using a Luma loop and a spider holster but it's not ideal.

The original image link seems to be down for me, any alternates? I love my 35 1.2, a mkII with weather sealing would be perfect.

Beautiful images David. If I could offer just one point of constructive criticism, it would be to use a bit of a shallower depth of field in the wide indoor ceremony shots. To me personally, the bride and groom are lost in the midst of the sea of people and lack a little bit of focus as everyone is equally sharp. I saw you stopped down the 24-105 to f/5.6 but shooting it wide open could be nice to try too..

Canon General / Re: Question about buying new 5D Mark III on Ebay
« on: July 06, 2012, 09:23:46 AM »
Isn't the black tape the normal solution they found for the light leak problem?

I think I know why it's so cheap. They're selling the bodies from the kit with the lens by itself:

"Please be aware that while all items we sell are brand new and never used, there are instances where we deliver the camera body (and box contents) in a box which originally included the camera and the lens. Please be reassured that the package that you received is brand new, never used, and comes with full documentation."

Canon General / Question about buying new 5D Mark III on Ebay
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:33:11 AM »
I'm looking to buy a brand new 5D Mark III body on Ebay and I've come across a few listings for about $3079 from supposedly reputable sellers with 99.5% ratings based on over 30k reviews. Besides the risk of it being a gray market item, what would be another risk I could incur to save about $400? I'm using an AMEX card to fund the transaction, worst case scenario if it's a scam I could just call to cancel the charge..
