It's the kind of announcement that I'm glad to hear and apprehensive of at the same time.
Lets hope it's developed and shared before canon does something to put a cap on it .
Think about it, Canon cameras are capable of so much more then they enable with their firmware. Most of the features that ML enables Canon wants to sell us as separate items like accessories for shooting time-lapse movies and whatnot.
I'm very happy about the add on features but worry Canon is going to try an nip it on the bud .

I bought a Sigma 50-500 2 years ago and have used it to photograph my kids sports ( outside) and also inside at their band and choir events . Inside required a tripod .
For $1500 I can't complain . I also use a Sigma 2X converter . This on a cropped camera gives you an effective power of 1600 mm.
I'd suggest renting one to see if it meets your needs.

....Just a little bit closer.
I don't think I can squeeze anymore detail out of my equipment unless I climb the tree .
(probably not a good idea)

Not my best shot, it was difficult focusing threw the branches had to go manual and my eyes aren't what they used to be.
But I know where he lives now so there's always the opportunity for improvement .

For lies perpetrated by his relative Punxsutawney Phill on February 02 , and encroaching on my property I declare a sentence of banishment if he is ensnared in the live trap or death if I see him foraging in my yard while I have easy access to a gun.
Either way he's a marked dirtpig .
The next time he gets shot, it will not be with a camera !

Software & Accessories / Re: Screw-on ND filter for 16-35 II
« on: April 25, 2013, 11:03:33 AM »Here's a few examples of long time exposures with the B+W .
The last photo has the color cast intact , it's not terrible .
If you do decide to go with the screw on filter, don't forget to purchase some stop-down rings so you can use it on other lenses !
Gorgeous shots. I feel inspired to use my ND filters more.
Do you need 10 stops to accomplish this? Can you make do with 6 stops ND?
Opinions?
I usually shoot 30 second or longer but to get the effect in the above photos it's probably overkill. Depending on the rate of movement of the subject ( in this case water.) you could get the same misty, foggy results at shorter exposures. Clouds on the other hand tend to move slower so take more time to capture movement.

I've been using it on a 17-40 L and 24-105 L with no problem. (and can actually focus using live view ). No issues with vignetting on this lens , I'm pretty pleased with the B+W black glass .

I'm slightly confused, maybe someone can clear this f8 focusing thing up for me.
When I use my Sigma 50-500mm f/4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM with a 2X converter my widest usable aperture is effectively f13 and the auto focusing works fine.
Am I missing something ?

On the bright side, because of this thread I was prompted to compare prices on a purchase of a 70-200 2.8 L II I made on 3/17 .
Thanks to B&H 's policies I just got a $30.00 kickback.
The customer service as always to my experience at B&H was great. The guy gave me a choice of a refund or store credit, I chose the later as I know I'll be a return customer many times in the future .
