I also had this issue when moving up to the 5DIII, no matter what updates were applied etc - yet the 7D & 5DII bodies worked as expected - so I invested in a card reader.

Having now upgraded OS X to 10.8.3 - for my 5DIII I can now import into LR4 over the usb wire direct from the camera - but I will continue to use the card reader.

Lenses / Re: TS-E 45mm & TS-E 90mm Finally Getting Replaced? [CR1]
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:28:22 PM »
The TS-E 90 is a superb lens but what would make it better is to allow for independent movements of the shift vs tilt such as the TS-E 17 & TS-E24 II received - this would allow Canon to add the Red ring onto the 90mm lens and if they can make it any sharper from what it already is that would be an extra bonus.

I would change my TS-E 90 to the II model simply for the independent movements and may consider the 45mm if the IQ is greatly improved.

Lenses / Re: New wide angle lens for FF
« on: March 14, 2013, 07:35:11 AM »
For landscapes you will of course be stopping down so that opens up more lens choice but if you are also looking for low light work then the 24 1.4 is a great option.

I find that 24mm is not wide enough on FF and use the 17-40 but also the TS-E 24 which is really worth its cost - the movements on the new TS-E models really do provide flexibility and I am finding I use the 17-40 less and less, it will also depend on your budget too.

- TS-E 24 II
- 17-40
- 24 1.4

- TS-E 17 (but not easy to adapt for filter use)

Software & Accessories / Re: Which wireless radio control for the 5D3?
« on: March 07, 2013, 02:53:31 PM »
When CamRanger is connected to the camera body LV on the camera is not operational, this saves on batteries for one.  All controls are sent to the iOS device, they are developing Andriod and have a beta OS X client which works well.

Thanks digital.paradise

I was actually looking only for a remote that could simply trip the shutter but will keep your advice in mind as my speedlites increase in number.

Thanks ncsa!

Camranger looks interesting. It'd be great to complete live view on the iPad / iPhone. Pity they don't ship it to India. I tried a search and it looks like a similar product is available for preorder at BH photo-

How do the specs compare to the Camranger? Also, will the camera LV also be active while using Camranger?

Thanks Neuro!

I will buy the Giga Pro II. It's got a pretty good reach of 100m and will meet my requirements nicely.

Thanks Stoneysnapper!

Do you lose the settings if the trigger turns off? If not, I probably could live with it the same way my phone locks up after every 5mins  ;)

If you already have iOS devices. iPAD, iPhone, then check out the CamRanger - it works very well in remote control / release of the camera.

Was looking for something else and came across this thread which may have some relevance to you ... apparently there are various versions of the Kenko 1.4x TC ...

My version has a green dot next to the made in Japan and operates with the 5D3

Thread here ....
