« on: November 22, 2014, 09:29:01 AM »
My 5dm2 has just started doing this. But its much shorter. Not sure exactly what is going on but i just started a habit of taking the battery out of it. I am ok with it for that camera but a brand new one? no...

EOS Bodies / Re: The Canon EOS 7D Mark II Jumps Out of a Plane
« on: November 07, 2014, 01:00:21 AM »
The fear of this is the autofocus system at f2. That awesome I can see when it is searching but it would be unwatchable with anything but a 70d 7d2 or upgraded c1/300.  Does anyone know what they mean by raw video? I assume thy mean just one of th Downloade me LUTs for canon cameras.

This is good to read. It makes sense but I have only ever done the wedding photos and video with just my team. I am now transitioning to where I get hired to do one or the other not both. I have never shot a wedding where I am not the main media person.
Soon I have a wedding coming up where I will be doing soley video and the clients have hired a very expensive photographer.
I am pretty nervous about shooting it just because every photographer has their rhythm. I don't want to be in the way of his. If anyone has good advice please let me know.
I plan on contacting him early in advance to communicate what i would like to accomplish without getting in his way.
But still any other advice would be great.

Also I don't think I will achieve the level of stupidity seen above.

Lenses / Re: why there are no new L primes
« on: October 24, 2014, 11:02:38 AM »
I would suggest you take another look at the Sigma 50 art. I have it and am enjoying it. It is sharp as anything and as far as focus it seems to hit great on my 5d3. To be honest i dont think i have ever used it nor would i on my  5d2 just because i feel it focus excellent on my other.
I have been wanting a 50mm for a long time and to be honest when canon updates the L i will most likely sell this sigma and have the canon on the way(as long as image quality is there). Not because i am hating this lens but just because i love that red ring.

EOS Bodies / Re: 4K Products Coming From Canon [CR2]
« on: October 24, 2014, 10:51:42 AM »
I am not sure why there are so many freak outs and threats about switching to another brand.
Look up all these cameras before you start shouting out how awesome they are. There are people all over the place talking about the issues and work arounds for these cameras to make them work. When canon releases them they will be a solid reliable product. THey may not have the most cutting edge features(that seems to be Canon of the past) but they will be reliable, solid, functional. Thats what i want out of a product i am using to make money.
If i have constant camera errors i become and unreliable person to use no matter how good i could be.

For example the Gopro are awesome camera, i have a quite  a few myself. But they are in a sense gimmicky. They work but they have been very funky at random times. Sometimes wont turn on, sometimes the battery indicator is off, electronic accessories act quirky. And they only do this 30 sec before a concert, wedding, event, moment happens.
I have never had a single hiccup with any of my canon cameras. I have magic lantern installed on on all of them and there still isnt a single issue i have had so far.
Just saying there is a reason you have a canon camera. Everytime i venture to far i find a product that is not worthy of being used in a demanding situation.

EOS Bodies / Re: No EOS-1D X Replacement in 2014 [CR2]
« on: September 30, 2014, 02:35:26 AM »
I am defiantly waiting on the new upgrade. The 7dm2 sounds good. Wished for high megapixels but that's really not what the 7d line is meant for.
I have never had a 1 series body. The next 1 whatever that's released will probably end up big my first. If it has either high megapixels or 4k it will meet my needs.

Also I have a theory. I think Canon should have different firmwares depending on whether your a video shooter or a photo shooter.  Not so much that you lose functionality but the menu changes to show you and adapt the buttons to your needs. When I am shooting video I do need video jobs it's annoying to access video features. Especially if they add more.
Or we will just start shooting video and pulling high res stills.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Why haven't you left canon?
« on: September 27, 2014, 03:47:43 PM »
I sold cameras before i used them. Its a sad way to employee people but Best Buy wasnt to worried about it then.
Anyhow i had lots of time holding, using, operating the menu, and comparing tech.
Now my opinion may not be worth much as i wasnt skilled but i would say because i had no previous experience my vision was raw and untainted by forums like this:)
Nikons menus, bodies, lens rotation was all funky feeling and awkward to operate.
Canon felt smooth, menus made sense, and the bodies gripped my hand when i held it.

Lots more money then i would care to admit has now been sent to canon. And no matter how ready i am for a HiMegapixel camera none of the alternatives have the same as Canon.
When canon does something its done right and its done well.

Business of Photography/Videography / Re: Concert Photo Copyright
« on: September 13, 2014, 04:51:33 PM »
Thank you guys. That was all great info. I live in the USA.
I believe that if we posted the photos online with any recognizable band member or their banner hanging in the background I could use it.
Its good to know that I have the rights to the photos tho.
I think for future reference I will get the production company to get the bands to sign off on using the pictures on their website. This band is pretty big and would have no reason to want what photos I took unless I happened to get that 1 in million.
thanks. this is why i like this forum, its like my own circle of good smart photo buddies.

EOS Bodies / Re: A Surprise Cinema EOS Announcement for Photokina? [CR1]
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:15:12 AM »
There are always post about what percentage of the market will buy a product and that determines how much a company will invest in these products. So it just stands to reason that lower end items will determine the flow of products and provide capital for the higher end product.
Sony and Panasonic have started to release some amazing and powerful low end products. Between the A7r for high megapixel small camera to the a7s at 4k or the gh4, these cameras are being bought at a large quantity. They are providing something powerful in a form and a price point previously thought out of reach. This used to be a canon mantra.
This new Sony FS7 is even another stab up the ladder for sony. I havent even heard of it until this post. These are amazing specs for a $8000 camera. This is something I would get jobs for and with specifically because it has specs that are not currently in my low end price range.
The c300 and c500 have become some peoples favorite cameras. They do a job and they do it well and accurately.
But for the majority of single shooters an 8000 dollars camera that can shoot 4k and slow motion in a good codec and take ef mount? That is powerful tool that is available.

Business of Photography/Videography / Concert Photo Copyright
« on: September 13, 2014, 10:41:40 AM »
I have a question and after searching the web forever I have gotten closer to an answer but need some direct insight.
I was hired by a production company to shoot a concert for the Eli Young Band and their openers. There was no photography contract between the production company and the bands. The purpose of the photos is to promote what the production company can do by way of timel apse and general concert photos(wid/tele).
I am under the impression that I would own the photos unless my contract with the production company dictated they were the owners of the photos(it didnt).
We(the prod. company and I) are getting ready to post the photos online but we are concerned the band may say they own those rights. While this sounds crazy there are many cases of this happening in the past.
Amist all the hustle, bustle and whining about how great the 7d2 should have been or will be if anyone can give me some insight it would be awesome.

EOS Bodies / Re: A Rundown of Canon at Photokina
« on: September 03, 2014, 02:22:52 PM »
From the photographer part of my job- the 7d2 sounds pretty awesome! I honestly never expected this camera to be the high megapixel one. So 20 megapixels at 10fps with good ISO sound like a great deal to me. I am excited and may buy it!

From the videographer part of my job- seriously? We need 4k in not a 10000$ body. I think canon was caught off guard by the gh4 and a7s. For anyone who says that they don't want to cut in on their 1dc sales is not thinking. If that were the case then a 60d wouldn't have 18 megapixels like the 1dx. Thre are other features- base ISO, recording codec, fps , etc.

This may make me buy something that has 4k on it from another brand as long as I can use ef mount. I am hoping to be  surprised by this anncouncement and get 4k. But I am also not just sitting at my computer refreshing canons news page.

EOS Bodies / Re: Are These The EOS 7D Mark II Specifications?
« on: August 22, 2014, 03:38:31 PM »
Really not that impressed. I am tired of these smaller resolutions. I would like to see something that's truly a game changer. Basically this is a field ready 70d that more toned on the focus and fps side.  Ugh. If these are true this probably won't be in my future. For what I do a 70d is the same thing.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 No Longer in Production
« on: August 17, 2014, 03:14:57 AM »
Hey used to work at that which shall not be mentioned for far to long. Those numbers in that app were always a bit of a mystery who and how they got there. And while discontinue dates couldn't be trusted as a frugal the start dates could. This is why items like wii and xbox 360 would be given these random model numbers. That way it was hard to find for nosey employees wanting release dates. Discontinue dates was more so we new just when we stopped carrying it after the fact. Sometimes it would even say we still carried old tech that wAs not true. Long story short don't make your peanut utter and jelly on this bread.

I can recommend this camera. I have multiple of them in both the 3black and the 3+ black. They work great. They are good for being able to fit just about anywhere and i would say always shoot in 2.5k if you dont need slow motion stuff.
As for photos i find it really is only good for timelapse. Just as a straight single photo i have never been impressed. It works but i would much rather use a dslr.

Make sure you dig down into the menus and get all the pro options turned on. Makes  a big difference especially on the 3+
