Animal Kingdom / Re: BIRD IN FLIGHT ONLY -- share your BIF photos here

Took this at Yellowstone two summers ago. Used my 70-200 II to track this raven against the hills of Lamar Valley.

I would agree with some of the comments made about the 70-200 II. While it may be "heavy" compared to other lenses, it's pretty manageable to carry around. I did a couple of half-day hikes throughout Yellowstone and the Tetons with my 70-200 II plus TC 1.4 on my 7D and I was fine. A little tired, sure. But nothing to complain about.
HOWEVER, make sure you have a Black Rapid strap. With the stock canon neck strap, you will definitely not be comfortable. The BR strap keeps the weight of the camera on your shoulder vs your neck.

5Dmk3, 60D

17-40 L , Sigma 50mm 1.4 ,70-200L 2.8 vr2

A local seller has a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 Non IS USM lens for $550.  What'd y'all think?  Is that a good deal?  I still want the version II and will still get it, but this looks a little tempting.  I trust Canon's build quality and I'd test the lens of course, but it is as is.

That sounds a little too good to be true, but it's a great deal. the 70-200 f/4 usually goes for about that much. I would definitely check the lens for any defects, especially the glass inside and out, but I would jump on that.

I've used the 70-200 f/4, 2.8, 2.8 IS, and 2.8 IS mk2 on APS-C sensors. The 2.8 II is by far the best lens, especially for football where shutter speed and subject isolation is key. The f/4 is really sharp, but will only be useful in bright daylight situations and the 2.8 II is probably a bit sharper when stopped down.

In other words, if you have the money, get the 2.8 II. You will not be disappointed.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Times running out 5D Mk3 or 1DX

A difference of $3000 is huge. Coming from a t1i, either will be WAY better in low light. I say if you have the money, get the 5d3 and invest the other $3000 in glass (i.e. 70-200 2.8ii) and still have some to spend.

EOS Bodies / 5d3 is the 2012 camera of the year!
« on: December 21, 2012, 10:43:47 PM »
For those who get Popular Photography magazine, their camera of the year is the 5d3. Yes, it beat out the Nikon D800 and the Sony A99. Goes to show that a camera is more than just the DxO ratings.

Here is a link to the article about it:

I would look into the 40 2.8. It's a great new little lens, and its auto focus is made to work better with video

Technical Support / Printing to Canon Pixma 9000 mk2 with CS6
« on: November 15, 2012, 09:29:04 PM »
I just recently got a Canon Pixma 9000 mk2 since the rebates were so good with the camera bodies. I tried to sell it locally but it's a small market and no one has even contacted me. I had a few people contact me about printing me photos, and I figured I could save money and do it with the pixma.

The problem is, canon doesn't seem to have a plug-in for CS6 yet. How do you print from CS6? And how do I get best color accuracy?

Thanks a bunch!

About time! Now I can have Cacnon written on my caps instead of Tamron.

EOS Bodies / Re: 6D or 5D Mk II

With the current prices of the 5D2, it's a no brainer! You can get the body + 24-105 for the price of the 6D. (see BH bundle with pixma 9000 and $400 rebate).

Canon General / Re: Lens Rebates Extended & 5D Mark II $400 Instant Rebate
« on: September 30, 2012, 02:09:30 PM »
I'm a bit confused; Is the 5D2 after rebate 1299$ or 1799$?

It's 1799 with the rebate.

Oh, i almost got my hypes up.

also, today is the last day you can get the $400 rebate on the pixma pro 9000 (which costs $338 at B&H). That means you can potentially get the printer and 5dmk2 for $1727. Not a bad deal when the Canon refurbished is going for that much.
