Lenses / Re: Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L Non-IS Discontinued?

I have this lens.  Bought it because of the price.  I do like it,  but seldom use it.  Been thinking about selling it.  A shame if they discontinue it.  It's a great lens.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The stereo mic would probably be the way to go.

EOS Bodies - For Video / Microphone recommendations?
« on: March 29, 2013, 10:00:23 AM »
I want to get a shotgun mic for my 5D3.  I do not shoot a lot of video, but I plan on shooting some on my vacation over the summer.  I don't want to use onboard sound since the IS on my 24-105 is pretty loud.  I was looking at something like the Sennheiser MKE 400 or a Rode VideoMic.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Got it yesterday.  Great lens! I'm going to have fun with it.

Getting some great responses here.  Now I also considered plunking down the cash for the 50L 1.2.  A wise choice?  Or does the price not justify the purchase over the 50 1.4?

I'm one of those who love their 50 1.2. But my advice would be to only buy it if you really know why you want it and what to do with it. I would start with the 1.4 or any of the other lower price choices. If it turns out that you use 50mm primes a lot and that you like to shoot at wide aperture then you can make a case for the 50L. Or not. It all depends. Or as somebody here said once: if you have to ask you probably don't need it.

Thats probably what I'll do....I'll start with the 1.4.  :)

Mine is loud too.  It's normal for this lens.

I doubt I'd use it on any paid gigs.  Just something easy to shoot with in low light.  For example at my sisters to shoot her kids indoors acting like maniacs.

I'm thinking about picking up the 50 1.4 for a fast option instead of lugging my 24-105 around to family events etc.  Is anyone using one on a 5d3?  Your thoughts?

24-70II.  I think that would pair well with my 5dIII  ;D

I'm using this lens on my 5d3.  It's great.  I was worried about the sharpness from all the reviews, but its not as bad as I thought I would be.  It's focal range is really meant for a full frame sensor though.  I wouldn't pair it with a crop body as the main walk around lens.  It does distort alot on the wide end, but thats what wide angle lenses do.  It can be managed with software.

Nice shot.  Yeah, I live here and wasn't really thinking the light show would be anything too look at so I didn't bother to go until the last night.  Turns out it was pretty interesting!  I'm not sure if you knew this since your not from the area, but the whole idea is that the lights are hooked up to some voice recorder.  People leave messages at a voicemail and the play it back and the lights flash along with the voicemail.  People left goofy messages they sang or had their child laugh.
