I know DXO scores are pretty arbitrary, but how is the zeiss 6 points higher than the 300/2.8 even though its worse in 4/5 of their "categories"

EOS Bodies / Re: 70-200 f2.8 IS II noise
« on: November 07, 2013, 01:48:05 PM »
My lens does the same thing, has a light grinding noise when the is engages and turns off.  Both copies of the lens i have used have made the same sound.  I also asked the CPS repair center about it when it was in for cleaning and they confirmed that it was normal to make that sound.

Mine is almost silent once the IS is up and running though.

Some even think that is one "sexy combo" :-\

Sorry, but I just don't see it and will never get it ::)

I actually tried it with my EOS m and 70-200 II and it was mildly usable for the short time period i was messing around with it.  I pretty much was supporting the entire weight with my left hand on the lens and just kinda aimed and pressed the shutter with my right.

The most awkward part for me tbh was having to hold the combination in front of you to see the LCD instead of up to your face.

Looks awesome but I personally would never buy a lens like that without AF. I have enough trouble trying to focus a 55 f/2  :'(

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: 6D sensor dust in one month?

Dust happens.

Just get a rocket blower, set the camera in cleaning mode (raise the mirror box), and try to blow the dust off yourself.  Should solve 99% of dust issues.

I had a 1Ds III as a CPS loaner for a week and always thought the colors from that camera were much "richer" than that i get from a 6D or 5D3.  Glad its not just me that has this feeling.

cool pictures, seems to have some weird flares going on.

Question though, are those pictures cropped? The 8mm is listed as a crop only lens and as far as I've heard it is pretty terrible on full frame (can see the lens hood).

I never realized the MP-E 65mm extended that much...holy mother of god...

I would checkout http://www.photozone.de/.  They have charts for a lot of lenses showing resolution as a function of aperture value.

Reviews / Re: Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 Wide Angle Review
« on: October 01, 2013, 02:23:54 PM »
Has anyone had experience with the cine version of this lens? I understand that it does have a slightly narrower maximum aperture, but its ring is declicked which could provide dual purpose for video if the build quality and optics are comparable.

The aperture is identical, it's just given in t-stops instead of f-stops.

Oh, didn't even notice that, thanks! So other than the declicked aperture ring, it looks like they're basically the same lens. I might just give the cine a go...

Also note that the focus and aperture rings are geared for use with video rigs, this make it a bit more difficult to use for regular photography or manual video focusing.

wonder if anyone will be it.  I have seen $500 amazon gift cards sold for $515.  Why would any one pay an extra $15 in order to buy it on amazon?  Laundering drug money????

Every once in awhile ebay will send out % off coupons. I'm assuming, and hoping thats whats going on here.

I acutally have always found my camera gear to be a little too tight  ::)

But pretty awesome, reminds me of the photog that lost his 5D2 to a lion

Canon General / Re: Accidental L Series Ad
« on: September 11, 2013, 04:30:31 PM »
Nice shot!

Here's mine, but it wasn't accidental.  The 'L' of the 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS, shot with the MP-E 65mm.

Im very disappointed in canon.  I expect my L's to be perfectly straight! We should all demand refunds :D
