I have to say i agree with Sanj. Your question is still very loaded. What you use to shoot with others may not.

Its one way to really cause arguments around here.

As for what to use, you can go the LED panels (120LED or more) from eBay for fairly cheap but you have to remember that they will be daylight balanced (usually) so you are either going to have to invest in some Gels to match room lighting or any other lighting that you have around you. They are usually plastic so they will be fragile and they will also use a lot of batteries and probably not last too long if used on full power.

There is then the other factors that need to be addressed, such as can you DIY any of your kit? Do you need portability/battery power. If you are going to use mains power are you allowing for safety backups in your budget (trip switches, locking power boards, quality RATED extension cables, circuit testers etc).

Like Sanj said loaded question.

Definitely a potential game changer for some narrative work, and people doing really short clips. But anyone doing event work (weddings, etc) wouldnt really be able to use it. I remember how mad people were at the 4GB limit (which meant 12mins or so); no way they'd settle for 700 frames.

But, since I'm one of the people who records short clips, I'd love this capability in my 60D, even if its for 10-15s

The thing to remember is this is still in early stages.

They are already working on continuous shooting.
The other issue there is the size and costs of the 1000x and 1066x cards.
I wonder if or when they get the HDMI out working as well, you could hook it up to an Ninja 2 and basically have no need for space or card issues?

The 1Dc is basicaly a 1Dx with other Software and a bigger heat sink.
I'm not sure if it is the same problem here but I'd be carefull not to damage my 5D due to more heat from the raw output.

They are claiming that heat is not really an issue, in reality the 1DX "should" be hackable and not have the heat issues too.
The thing stopping them there is Canons legal team.

I wonder how long it will take before Canon come down on ML for releasing this.
It could put a large dent in C100/C300 sales.

Blackmagic Design recently announced a 4k camera for $4,000 with a Super 35 sized sensor (similar to APS-C sized) that has an EF mount:

Black Magic also announced 2 years ago that it would deliver their products on time.
Some people are STILL waiting for their Gen 1 products when they are out announcing their Gen 3 versions.

What good is a $4000 camera if you have to wait for 18 months + to use it?

I ended up going canon for few different reasons.

First and foremost is i prefer the way it felt in my hand compared to the Nikons. Just felt more natural.

Then there was the video option that other brands didn't have at the time.

Lastly it was the fact that i started shooting Canons back the film days, moved to Pentax then when digital came around went back to Canon. So i guess a bit of brand loyalty there as well.

I guess I'm gonna be grilled for saying that I find this product to be a game changer, well atleast for me but then i'v Said it so ...............I dunno

I have to agree.

For those of us shooting low budget shorts and indy films the price of the current model puts it out of affordability to purchase outright but I'm still going to rent one when i get a chance to have a play around.

I feel that a lot of people that are complaining that this is "just another gyro" or steady cam obviously don't need what this would be used for.

It seems that whenever someone mentions even the hint of something to do with DSLR Filmmaking on this forum, people go into witch hunt mode, as if its going to bastardise the sanctity of pure DSLR photography. Or something along those lines.

Either that or it will be some kind of Gyro or Cage system that you can use on multiple camera bodies.

How much of a game changer that is im not sure about, but we will see.

I read this rumour and i take from it...

The 7D2, 1DX, 1DC, 1DLMP(Large Mega Pixel?) will all be in the same body/shell.

So that would mean 4 Pro bodies

Then the 5D3 is semi pro, with the 70D and 6D being an adv amateur line?(don't really know that the difference between the 2 classifications are)

After that it all gets a LOT confusing.

Just saw this pop up on the NZ/Aus Canon FB pages
Canon EOS 100D and EOS 700D - First Look

You know that thing (100D) is small when it makes the 40mm pancake lens look large.

But other than that there is nothing of interest for me.
Guess Canon are forcing me to either wait for the 7D2 and see what that holds in store or upgrade to the 5D3/1DX if i want a camera that doesn't feel like a toy in my hand and is properly weather sealed.

Depends on how much cash but if its reasonable I'd go with the swap and isn't the tokina 12-24 a ff lens? It's the 11-16 that's crop

Yeah the 11-16 fits but is only really usable at 16mm so kind of a waste unless he was going to use it on a crop camera as well.

If you dont want to spend a fortune you can try eBay or one of those kinds of cheaper Chinese knock off places.

Or you can try somewhere like http://www.hypop.com.au/backdrops.html or B&H

Another option is, if you have a set of reflectors with a green or blue chroma key insert you can always position this to work.


Then its just a matter of either using an old C-Stand with a bulldog clip to hold it in place or something similar.

Ultra portable and would pack up really small too.

I have a couple of the Cine lenses (8,24,35,85mm).

They are exactly the same as their non cine lens siblings except for the gears, side shown markings and de clocked aperture.

T3.1 is approx. the same as f2.8 so thats the difference between the two.

If you can save a few $$ and get the Bower or Rokinon versions of the Lens but non Cine then do that. There is no need to pay that little bit more for the cine lenses unless you are using them for video with a follow focus.
