I agree. They hype was targeted towards Laforet's readers while this tech's market is mostly Laforet himself and other similarly sized production studios. The price, the two (skilled) men required to operate it properly and hardware limitations that require more money (wireless monitoring) all preclude it from being a "game changer".

The movie was meant to showcase the tech so the excessive use of it is understandable.

As for the Movi itself, it IS pretty cool but not so much of a game changer, me thinks.

Sorry but I'm not buying it. Sure, there may be more taxes involved but certainly not 6000$ worth of taxes.
But the reason I'm doubting this conclusion is that this price difference of $6K positions the camera in two extremely different markets. It not a small issue of being slightly more expensive that some competitor but essentially being product that caters to a different costumer. I simply don't see Canon letting EU regulations dictate their corporate strategy worldwide. Especially since there are ways around it.
The camera can have different prices in different markets. It would create a black / grey market like you mentioned but that's not Canon's problem. Even firmware upgrades can be locked to regions. Sure, hacking it would probably not be too difficult but again, that's not Canon's problem.

If the 5D3 was killing it, I doubt we'd see Canon's stock fall off so dramatically against the benchmarks. And if you look at the chart, the slide begins right after the release of the 5D3.

Nikon's stock has also fallen 15% since April so what does tell us?

It is impossible to isolate such a marginal product like an expensive pro camera as the culprit. On the other hand, something going wrong with the bread and butter income (entry DSLRs, P&Ss, kit lenses) could potentially be factor. But even then it would have to be something very dramatic and clear cut like a factory blowing up. Lackluster DXO results do not cause panic on the trade floor.

Now as it went all the way down to sub $3K (again, I am aware that this is not MSRP but rather a street price), i see quite a number of early buyers are somewhat angry/frustrated as they paid the full price.

Besides that Adorama eBay thing where is it regularly sold below 3K?

I know you mentioned that you wanted EF mount but I recently got a hold of an AE-1 and I find this to be an excellent training camera, it has helped me get rid of some bad habits... some of those fancier SLR's may still have too many bells and whistles for training purposes

I second the AE-1 or one of its variants. You won't be able to use your lenses, sure, but FD glass is excellent and cheap. I don't know what lenses you have now but fast FD primes are a delight to work with.

If Canon thinks that a firmware update / unlocking is worth $8000, I wonder how they feel about an extra ±20mp.
Canon is hard to predict these days. It may come at $3500, $5000 but it can also be $8000 - $10,000.

Let me guess - yet another recycling of the T2i/60D/7D/T3i/T4i/ pixels, just in a larger sensor.

18*(1.6*1.6) = 46.1

Exactly because of that I'm doubting this Rumor. The nu,bers fit way too smoothly.

I have four 560 IIs (manual) that I work pretty hard. They are strong and consistent and I'm very happy with them. They do tend to overheat if you shoot too many full power discharges too fast but that shouldn't be a problem in most cases. Heck, they are so cheap that you can double or triple up and shoot all day on a lower setting.
