Another option to having an older DSLR converted by Lifepixel.  Is to check eBay for Lifepixel converted P&S.  Before I had D40 converted to 590nm, I bought a G9 conveted to the same cut-off for about $300 off ebay.  Once I was happy with the choice of wavelength cut-off, I just relisted the P&S back on EBay.

I had my 40D converted by LifePixel - they are great! One thing I ran up against pretty quickly, tho, is that a lot of lenses, in particular the 16-35 I was hoping to use for landscapes, have a nasty PITA "hot spot" of reduced exposure in the center of every shot [due to the way IR reflects inside the optics]. I'm currently looking at the Sigma 15mm to use on WA shots, since it is reportedly better. It would pay to research your current lenses before you commit to IR.

I use LR to do this.
In the library view I choose the metadata tag at the top of the page and I can see in an instant what the distribution of FLs for a set of images.
I used this to justify NOT buying a lens when I see that I rarely use a certain FL in a zoom.

As for Bridge, it will show the info (I think)in the sidebar at the left.

I've recently purchased several Lee filters from advice I have received here, thank you all.  No my question is: Is it safe to store it without the tissue paper that it comes with?  I know the tissue paper should provide for protection against scratches, but it's a total hassle.

It's when you start adding elements not in the original capture, It's no longer photography.

I could not agree more, adding to the image changes it to photographic art; however, subtracting (the corner of a building, a flying bird, contrails, et cetera) is perfectly acceptable.  Obviously anything you can do it a wet darkroom, you can 'legally' do the same in photoshop.

Ironically you mentioned one of the two lenses I am trying out.  Whilst I certainly don't ever see the day when I 'need', much less can afford, the 600 f/4, I do think it's a possibilityt hat after trying out the 17 TS-E I may decide that I do need it.

So am I to understand from you post that I can evealuate two of the same bodies at the same time?

If I can do it in the wet darkroom (cropping, dodging, burning, filtering) then it's completely legal; adding to or subtracting from the photo I feel are iffy, they take away from the art of photography...that's certainly not to say that I have not photoshopped hundreds of contrails out of beautiful blue sky...but adding objects that do not exist is a no-no in my mind.

I hope someboday can help me, I just joined CPS as a Gold Member and would like to "play with" the TS-E 17mm, if I find it matches my style, I may break the bank for it. In any event, what is the procedure one goes through to request a lens? The CPS website says you can borrow for "a week or two", how long do you typically use a borrowed lens? Do they take your credit card number as security against you damaging/losing the lens?  And, finally, is it OK to borrow a lens that you have no intention of ever purchasing (say the 600 f/4)?

The 85 f1.2, it allows low/natural light shots at the wedding/reception.  And whilst you can lug around the 70-200, the 85 is more convenient.

Lenses / GND Filter Recommendation

I recently went from the 24-70 mk I to the 24-70 mk II.  This means I have to add all new sets of filters (why I chose the 17-40 over the 16-35).  In anyevent, I have always used B&W.  But I can't find any 82mm GND filters (I saw one from Tiffen, but I prefer to buy a better brand).  Any ideas?  Thanks...

I just got the new 24-70 to replace my Mark I version of the lens.  Here is my question, given that the new lens has a diameter of 5mm more, does that mean that more light enters the lens?  I presume yes.  So, following that presumption, shooting the same subject in the same lighting at the same aperture and ISO speed, does the 82mm lens need less time to properly expose the subject?  If it does, it follows that the new lens is better in low light, correct?

Unfortunately, I sold the Mark I lens the day before the Mark II arrived in the mail so I was unable to test the theory.

Give me the pentaprism any day.  I learned to shoot using an optical viewfinder and just can't see myself breaking the habit.  I do like camera gadgets though, and this one looks interesting.

Cool... A while back I followed some online tip for getting one of the Nik plugins for free (think it was an older version of the B/W plugin), and sure enough, in my spam folder was a link to the complete collection!

The whole collection free!   

It got caught in my spam folder, and I use gMail.  There is something ironic about gMail calling email from Google spam!
