another plus is that my friend has a spare orig. lens hood that i can have!

the last question i have:

what is it about the lenses? why do people say "the first lens i got was not so good but the second is great"
how can i recognise, if a have a good lens or bad built lens?

thanks a lot

thanks for the fast and good answers, im sorry that ive overeseen the already existing thread.

after buying the 5d mk iii and a 35mm f2.0 i want to save up some money.

i think i will go for the 85mm f1.8.

Does somebody have useful comparison pictures before i make my real final decision? i read lots of threads but im still not sure.

its a quality question now: quality, built, ?

thanks in advance,

thanks for you advices.

i must say i have a 35mm 2.0 and im planning to get a 70-200 f4.0 or f2.8

so you think the 85mm is the best choice then so i have all focal lengths covered?

thx a lot,

Dear cr community,

im planning to get a new portrait lens for my 5D mk iii.

I have read a lot of reviews about the 85mm 1.8 that it has a very fast focus and is pretty sharp.

Does someone have any experience with both of these lenses to help me in my decision?

The price is actually nearly the same due to a canon cashback sale in austria. (100mm 2.0 is only 30Euros more expensive than the 85mm)

Hoping for good advices! :)

Thank you - aiai  8)

Speedlites, Printers, Accessories / Re: 430 EX II Assist Beam Cover lost

hopefully it works, normally the authorised repair company in Austria, canon itself doesn't repair anything, wants to 'repair' it by themselves (expensive). As usual, asking doesn't cost anything.

I'll let you know on monday how the process here works!

thanks

EOS Bodies / Re: Used 5D3

the 6th digit on the serial should be 3 or larger. If it says 1 or 2 then you got a camera with the light leak issue !

If you buy the body just ask the seller or the online shop what digit it says at the 6th place as Ant_Pap_Cy said.

I did the same!

its built like a tank and is weather sealed, but note that a filter is required for weather sealing!

Have a look at

Quote
The Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM Lens is weather-sealed but requires a UV Filter to complete the sealing.

everyone will say if you have money go for the 16-35 f2.8..

in the past i was taking pictures in clubs. "weather" sealing is great. Was tested by a drunk person who spilt half a glass of vodka red bull over my 17-40  >:(. -> still works like a new lens ;)

very durable, good priced L lens.

get the 17-40L lens!

i was working with a 17-40L lens on my canon 50d for 2 years.
after getting a 5D MK III and putting the lens on a FF cam was amazing.
Nice wideangle lens. I wouldnt pay double the price for a 16-35L lens.
17-40 hast great sharpness beginning at f8.

My suggestions: GET IT! :)
