EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: DOF FF vs Crop...
« on: February 13, 2012, 10:26:08 AM »
The way I understand it FF gives you a smaller DOF at the same focal length. So if I zoom to 17mm on my crop body and to 28mm on my FF camera, giving them effectively the same field of view, the FF will have a shallower DOF?

yes and no...  for the same composition, yes as u stand closer with the FF for different compositions then it would be the same for your example.

short answer, no
long answer, about a stop of difference in depth of field. (closer u are to something the shallower DOF u have, FF simply lets u stand closer [for the same crop]).

if it is lanscapes u are shooting u don't need f2.8 so might as well have the extra focal length....

I have the Nissin and it is easier to use than the canon...  recycle time not really a problem as i don't need to rapid fire anything....

only ring flash i used is the orbis, very recomended...  won't fit ur quadrads though...  but unless u need a ring flash all the time it is a good compromise

I'm into Nissin at the mo, way cheaper than the 580and a guide number of 60... so a little more oomf, slightly slower recycle but all ttl and fully compatible...  better menu system too...

i'd not worry too much about all the bells and whistles, the camera is just the tool, you are the photographer...

all depends what you are shooting, but the 24-70 purely for versatility...  do you really need f1.4?

Lenses / Re: How do you think we should spend the money?
« on: February 02, 2012, 04:11:46 AM »
my biggest spend each year is on training rather than kit...  depending on what jobs u take on though a back up camera is probably essential.
