i'd not worry too much about all the bells and whistles, the camera is just the tool, you are the photographer...

all depends what you are shooting, but the 24-70 purely for versatility...  do you really need f1.4?

my biggest spend each year is on training rather than kit...  depending on what jobs u take on though a back up camera is probably essential.

all depends what you want the images for... personal use i'd say jpeg...  pro use i'd keep the raw file..

the tip they offer is to wet the rubber bit then screw on for a super tight attachment...  i often hook on to manfrotto tripod mounting plate too...

Lighting / Re: Softbox vs Diffuser

a diffuser, stofen i presume u mean, is ok but it works by throwing the light all around in a bear bulb way,

A stofen is better than nothing. It works even better in an umbrella/softbox than a bare flash.

Nothing wrong with a stofen I use mine all the time...  But the amount f 'pros' you see using them incorrectly is shocking....

i used to subscribe to pro photographer, but soon got repetitive and uninteresting...  depending on what you want you are prob better off looking at the Adorama TV on youtube and similar.. lots of knowledge and inspiration.. and it is free!!

take an assistant on jobs...  holding lights and guarding kit their main job!

- Why do many big events not allow such cameras? I.e. what is the actual risk for them? Naturally, you'd be able to take great pictures with such equipment. What's the real problem for them? Again, in the previous topic, one of the things mentioned was that larger cameras would be of more annoyance to other people. I find it unlikely that that is the biggest reason for events to not allow those things.

Any thoughts?

they sell the rights to photograph and so want to protect the revenue stream

I got the china copy from ebay..  works really well and the amount i use it being a fraction of the manufacturer price a very good thing...

depends what you are using the kit for....   I've got a ton of bags travel i'd use my think tank shape shifter, wedding I'd use a double sunsnipper type strap with a think tank retrospective, model shoots out doors a lowpro magnum 400 and if traveling on assignment my lowpro wheely suitcase...

what i have noticed is that i try and carry less and less on each job...  ok, the back up kit is always on hand, but what i am actually physically carrying is reduced to the essentials.

can i add to that....  if you mean a foldable diffuser like the reflectors.. and are indeed often sold as a combination reflector diffuser... then that will work as well as a softbox but you need to hold it in front of the flash, at a short distance, so fairly impractical unless you have an assistant or even more light stands.
