This one's "official"; blue painters tape works, too.

You should go into business and sell those. Designer colours, etc.

Sekonic does not play nice with Canon RT so I carry my STE3 around with me when I shoot in M. I use it to fire the flashes by pressing the test button. I can shut the other flashes off and work at one at a time at each location.

I cut up one of the mini stands, used a BR connector and Optech strap. I tried a generic mini stand but it was hard to lock and I did not want to damage the rubber. I just purchased a replacement stand from Canon.

I am convinced Canon would gain a lot by also introducing not only a sensibly-priced 430EX-RT but also a TX-RT transceiver that would allow to also include 580EX II / 430 EX II (possibly also mk 1) speedlites in a radio wireless setup. Ideally also select studio strobes where makers cooperate with Canon. Use of other third party ettl speedlites could be inhibited via some chip in such a canon RT transceiver.

I'm not sure about that one. Going backwards. RT is the future and besides as business I would not want to sell my customers something so they can keep using older technology. I would want to sell them new toys. Just look at the computer and cell phone industry.

I guess I'm getting mixed vibes at other sites. Mostly POTN and DPreview. People don't want to pay Canon prices. There was quite a long thread at POTN when YN RT was announced. Lot people of waited for the YNE3 release. I read the AF assist is sketchy on cameras like the 5D3 and I don't miss second curtain sync. Very happy with the Canon product.

If you are right you will make a lot of people happy. Personally if I am going to go off camera flash I go big or go home :D  I have 3 600's and the STE3. Love it.

To the Av vs Tv comments. I prefer to use Av for sports and birding, if I'm not shooting in M. I prefer to control my DOF and keep an eye on the shutter speed rather than the other way around. Both accomplish the same thing, just a preference.

I voted keep the 600, no 430 update. Unless Canon goes to RT in the body you need another flash or the STE3 to make RT worth it. If you are going off camera then you are looking at modifiers down the road that require more power. I think serious off camera shooters will want more power. YN will not come not come out with a smaller version of the 600 clone (whenever it comes out) just because it will be reasonably priced and there will be competition from others one day. Besides if Canon comes out with a 430 RT why would people buy it when they can get a YN 600 for the same price.

I think Canon will keep the 430 non RT for you basic single flash on camera photog. They may update it to make it sound more fancy. Heck they may even just drop that line one day which would make the 320 the basic intro flash. I could be wrong but YN came out with their own transmitter within 2 years of Canon's STE3 which is ½ the price. As a business you have to think about R&D and manufacturing change costs vs return on investment. I'd focus on pricing current RT products more competitively. They are going to feel it when YN comes out with the RT flash. Others like Godox are around the corner.

I listen to the beep and have activated the red light/s on the focus points. I will turn off the beep at a wedding and put my 5D3 to silent shooting mode.

I know both my 7D and 5D3 have several programmable button options, I just can't figure out why Canon makes us hold them. Even provide the option for one or the other. Not hard with todays tech.

Software & Accessories / Re: updating to Maverick 10.9?

I have noticed the oddest thing. After updating to Mavericks the clock is about 3 minutes faster after about a week. When I open date and time preferences it re-sets itself. I am running 10.9.2

A dedicated or an assignable button that when you press and release it switches from One Shot to AI Servo or back with an an indicator in the viewfinder. You only send one indicator. Tells you when you are in AI Servo.

Interesting. I have the ST-E3 and three 600's. The extra features like AF assist or second curtain sync never bothered me. If I need AF assist I'm mobile and have a 600 on the camera for bounce and two others on stands. In the studio the ST-E3 is on the camera. 5D3 so Group Mode is ousting. Thanks for the write up.

I find when event shooting I tire out trying to continually see if the focus is locked on where I need it to be so I shoot one shot most of the time for focus confirmation. When people are moving towards or away I switch to AI Servo. I agree that AI Servo works well for static objects and many people leave it on.

I still to this day wonder with the technology out there why Canon could not provide a dedicated button or an assignable one that when you press and release switches to the other shooting mode. Maybe an indicator in the viewfinder. Even if you can assign another button yo have to hold it which I find uncomfortable. I just usually use the Q screen. It is typically on the FEC setting as I'm always tuning the flash so it takes a few extra seconds and is still a bit of a pain.

Lenses / Re: General purpose zoom for honeymoon

Just get her some stuff from Victoria's Secret and you will have all the zoom you need :). I noticed a few things about the 24-105. I had that lens for about 6 years and did me very well. A good sharp lens that has a nice range.

I never liked it at 24mm on a FF. Pretty bad for distortions and CA. I know this can be corrected but the outsides, especially people never looked right. I was looking for a WA lens and the 24-70II came out. Still has a bit of distortion and CA but no where near as much.

I decided to sell the 24-105 and get the 24-70 II. Love the IQ. Miss the range and IS of the 105 but no where as much as I thought I would. For that price I think it should have been included. If I had unlimited money I would have kept the 105 as a walkaround but today I would not part with my 24-70. It is not a 24 TSE but is a formidable landscape lens

24mm @ 2.8

28mm @ 5.6
