EOS Bodies / Re: CES 2013
« on: January 10, 2013, 12:18:40 PM »
Sorry, you're right, this lens wasn't the real announcement.. just photos I saw on google from the prototype product
I think the real announcement was the crappy 35mm f2 IS and 24-70 F4 IS only...

I think the only THING they have announced was the 200-400 F4 1.4X with ridiculous price tag....
So far, I'm still disappointed with Canon... :(

EOS Bodies / Re: Which is better? 5D MKII or 6D?
« on: January 10, 2013, 11:29:07 AM »
The 6D is better in low light for sure and the images in general look slightly better. For just about everything else, the 5D mark II is better. The 6D is definitely not a 5D replacement. It is more of a 60D upgrade.
More information in this review:

I disagree with you...6D blow away the 5D mk2 in every aspect.. don't even compare old camera with the new ones.. looks the center point AF, -3ev and high quality image in high ISO.. plus a buch of other stuff..

I don't know.. too much money for a zoom lens in F4 style... not good at all!
I might get the new Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS HSM.. $3600 it a great price for this kind of lens..

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon 6D - Meike grip on ebay for under $40

I bought one.. waiting for arrival...
I promise to do a review from this "cheap" grip..  ;)

So... has it arrived yet? I'm just bugging because I'd like to read a review of this from a real person and not a Meike exec writing on Amazon...

Not yet.. I'm still waiting.. 2 weeks already! :(

a proper 12-24 for full frame would be absolutely killer.  the 16-35 just isnt sharp enough for such duty. I am iteching to go full frame but not having a 10-22 kinda sucks

I really don't know if they can make 12-24 (12mm without being fisheye).. I think 14mm is the minimum wide for full frame images..

I'm really interested for something like: 14-24 2.8 - 135 f1.8 or f2 with IS - 85 1.2 whit IS and sealed...

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 vs 6D AF in low light
« on: January 05, 2013, 06:33:05 PM »
folks, don't forget about Bryan Review from the-digital-picture website.

"I can focus the 6D's center point on a subject with reasonable contrast down until auto exposure gives me a setting of 160 at 10 seconds and f/2.8 (really dark) with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens mounted (note that the 6D's metering range spec is listed at EV 1-20). The Canon EOS 1D X's center point could not focus on the same subject with the same lens mounted. Note that the 6D focuses very slowly under these dismal lighting conditions - but locking slowly is far better than failing to lock."

"Made to focus in very low light condition: EV-3 is the strongest low light AF performance of any Canon AF system at Canon EOS 6D review time. EV-3 is the equivalent of moonlight."

So..1DX has the same AF system as the 5Dmk3.. so 6D does a better job focusing at dark conditions.. better FROM ANY CANON CAMERA TO DATE!

Technical Support / Re: LP-E6 battery failure - Canon 6D
« on: January 05, 2013, 12:19:18 PM »
answer from Canon CPS:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support regarding the battery options for your EOS 6D. I'm sorry that you're running into battery problems with some batteries.
Let me suggest that you take out the battery from the camera and clean the contact points in the camera casing, as well as on the battery itself, with a pencil eraser.

After leaving the battery and memory card out for at least 30 minutes, put them both back into the camera.  It might even be a good idea to ensure that the battery is fully charged before placing it back into the camera's battery compartment.

Also, check the problem battery and see if it matches the logo appearance and style of the good battery. There are knock-off batteries that other companies sometimes try to pass off as Canon batteries, they look identical as the Canon ones with serial code, and these knock-off are the batteries which doesn't work like the originals, and might damage the camera, which is why we suggest that you stick with the authentic Canon batteries, make sure you have bought the batteries from Canon store or any reputable Canon store reseller.
Let us know if you have any other questions, and thanks again for choosing Canon.

So.. my brother's batteries are FAKE.. I don't know how and why... ????

I contacted Canon.. they will investigate this stupid thing..

many people has the same problems about the 6D using older version of LP-E6..

the problem above, the guy was using aftermarket decoded batteries.. I'm using ORIGINAL and got the same problem!!

Technical Support / Re: LP-E6 battery failure - Canon 6D
« on: January 04, 2013, 08:53:28 PM »
I'm going thru the same freaking problem.. the instructions above didn't work because my brothers (60D) batteries and my charger (or his charger) are brand new...

I bought the new 6D and I'm trying to use the LP-E6 from my brother's 60D.. and the camera won't read the batteries at all.. the camera works, but I cannot see the full batteries bar, and the screen says "communication with canon lp-e6 battery is irregular. continue to use this battery?" .. strange because his batteries are original and new.. and both cameras by Canon website uses LP-E6!! freaking strange...

Btw, I contacted Canon CPS.. waiting for the answer.. seems to be an newer version of the LP-E6 batteries.. just ridiculous! They should change the name for LP-E7 or something...

Oh yeah.. the 6D is way better camera than the 5d MKII..
and has better AF center point and high ISO compared with 5D MKIII...

2.) Have you missed that 1/8000 shutter speed ?

i don't believe 1/8000 will be missed by many, or if the exclusion will even be noticed.

just out of curiousity, i did a metadata search through my archives and found a handful shots at 1/8000 - images shot at 1.2 or 1.4 in broad daylight for DOF, when i really should have been using an ND filter

I don't think you going to miss the 1/8000.. the 6D you can shoot at 50 ISO... (50~4000 or 100~8000, is almost the same)
IMO, the 6D has the best AF from any camera from Canon to date, the camera can focus DEAD ON using the center point which I use 99.99% of the time, and I don't shoot moving subjects, like sports or anything similar...
Buying this lightweight and solid camera, best AF center point, and the best ISO performance from any Canon camera?..  its a winner for sure.. that's why I bought 3..
